jdbrown Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Yesterday I noticed the so called white mold on some 07's. I then last night saw my 98 BPC's were covered in plume and white fuzzy's. I checked my Partagas Lonsdales and some of the wrappers looked like raisins. Very wrinkled. The reservoir had white material floating in the water. The humidity is 62 and so is temp. Is it possible that the label was wrong on the distilled jug and I have added tap water? Only explanation I could think of given the interior conditions. The instructions say to rinse the reservoir with water and bleach solution and set for 30 minutes and then add distilled water. Since I probably cant reach Bob this weekend I was looking for any additional recommendations. I do have replacement wicks I will change as well. Thanks
cf2112 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 JD, Buy some Super Absorbant Polymers (http://www.water-keep.com/catalog/ or http://www.watersorb.com/) and throw away the wicks. Fill canisters about 1/4-1/3 with polymers add water and if you want to stop mold a cap of grain alcohol (everclear). The polymers will hold a lot of water and reduce the chance of accidental spillage to nothing. I just throw out the polymers every fall because these babies are cheap and I remove my humidifiers during the humid summers here in Big MO. I have a freind who uses the Everclear and has had no mold for 2+ years, he lives in Arizona so he needs humidity year round.
gostgost Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 JD, Did you notice any minerials in the tank? this would be a sign of the wrong water as Distilled water leaves nothing behind. Dave.
ucla695 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I abandoned the wick system in my resevoir years ago because of the same problem. Now I use beads and the humidity holds steady year round. I've also heard good things about polymers, as cf2112 said, so you might want to try that too.
