Box Code: DiC 06 MGT

I recently received my very first Monte 2s (10 box) and like many of you I was unable to wait the recommended 30 days to try one (I made it three days which for me is patient).

I chose to make this a morning smoke (following a hearty breakfast) paired with a cup of dark roast Columbian coffee.

The pre-light draw was smooth with loamy earth flavor. Construction was asthetically pleasing, consistent and smooth.

The first draw was powerful and reminscent of Turkish coffee and I have to admit I was a little concerned that I had chosen 7:30 in the morning to smoke this beauty. However, the second and third draws smoothed out immediately into light cream and deerskin. The ambient smoke was unlike any I've ever experienced, perfectly resembling that first whiff of a walk-in humidor.

As I've read from other reviews, sure enough the burn was initially uneven and canoed slightly. This however evened out for the middle third of the smoke when some truly delightful sweet cherry and vanilla floavors kicked in.

The final third of the smoke became expectedly stronger moving to leather, dark chocolate and tar notes mitigated by a pleasing hay flavor.

Upon finishing this fine cigar, I understood why it is considered one of the best. I've never been to Alaska, though I've heard it is stunningly beautiful and is more of an experience than a simply a trip. For me the Monte 2 is much the same...I'd heard of its exceptional nature...and now I've been. Indeed it was more of an experience than simply a smoke.

Nice review Matthew, now I challenge you to wait 30 days and smoke another and check out the difference that a month will do for the flavors. :-P

I have become a convert and firm believer in this rule. I smoked a Monte 2 the day after I received it and it was one of the most horrible tastes I've ever had. Could be from the stinky bubble wrap but I'll wait 30 days before I try the next one.

Do you think the bubble wrap affects the cigars?

Maybe initially the "flavor" seeps into them but it definitely dissipates after a few days. My father smoked one from the same box 2 days after i did and he said it tasted great. I'm no expert but just my $.02

Based on this thread I just smoked another one. It has definitely improved tastewise proving what I said earlier about the bubblewrap smell dissipating after a few days.

I just opened my PSS#1 Cab and it still smells like that bubble wrap. Now it has been over two weeks. What does it smell like to you? I think it smells like insecticide.
