smokum Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I never thought a Fonseca was in the lower league of CC such as Piedra or Belinda. These all sound refreshing.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Fonseca Cosacos BUD AUG 04 42 x 135 (5.3") Corona There really is no aroma at cold to these cigars. The tissue paper does a fair job in absorbing aroma almost completely. In older examples I have seen the tissue paper stained yellow which leads me to believe that this is not simply a packaging exercise but an effective manner to tame the cigar. Just a theory. Good looking Colorado wrapper and good construction. Clipped the cap and the draw was perfect with only clean tobacco on the palate. Fired up the foot and the initial draws revealed a fuller flavour profile than I anticipated. Certainly no powerhouse but just a shade below medium. No pepper spice through the nose but the cigar is into stride quickly with a very distinctive core of shortbread and milk coffee. There is a dichotomy to this cigar….light medium body but full flavour. Shortbread, coffee and butter continue to shine through the mid section while still just short of medium body. Entertaining cigar, refined, clean and very smooth. Very good level of billowing white smoke which has a crisp tobacco aroma. While I would not call it complex (there is little change in its flavour profile) the Cosacos has a quiet dignity. It does what it does extremely well. The final third builds in strength to a true mid body cigar. I am enjoying the finish as it is more to my personal liking. Touch of spice now through the nose, stronger milk coffee on the palate. All in all a very good mild medium cigar and designed for the lover of lighter bodied cigars or those seeking a mid morning coffee cigar. Surprised. 88/100
