I saw in another thread that El Prez noted that these generally smoke well young but may be a bit off at the moment. I have some box dated Feb 2007 and have tried 3. They are not terrible, but they are far from excellent. They seem a bit dull, tight draw and have all had slight burn issues.

Has anyone else noticed issues for these? Likely just that they need more time to settle?

Thanks.

I have some Jan 07 and they perfectly fit your description. I do think they will be very good but like you say need some nap time.

I just got a SLB from 2001. I haven't tried one yet as they are still resting from their trip.

I have a box from mid 07 and while not in the "zone", they are a great way to finish a spicy Indian or Mexican dish. I tried one after a stake dinner and the youth showed through (though no draw or burn issues). The spicy food masks the young cigar characteristics though and make for a very enjoyable experience.

Well I suppose the simple answer is to let them sit for a few months. They are young and travelled a long way. This, of course, begs the next question. Most of my habanas are "young." Which of the following be smoked young with maximum flavor and are any of those listed below cigars that absolutely should rest for a few months?

Cohiba Esplenido

Cohiba Siglo IV

Cohiba Robusto

Montecristo 2

Montecristo Edmundo

Montecristo Petit Edmundo

Bolivar Royal Corona

H Upmann Sir Winston

H Upmann Magnum 46

Romeo y Julieta Churchill

Partages Serie D No. 4

Partagas Lusitania

Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona

Caesar, those highlighted if 06/07 stock should smoke well now. I am assuming your Sir Winstons are 07 or 03. They will all improve with time.

Just a point. Ensure you dry box the cigars you intend to smoke this week for 3-4 days. If I was to put a % difference it makes to the smoking experience I woud say anywhere from 20-30%.

Tight cigars become close to perfect drawing cigars. Muted flavours become sharp.

BBFs have been pretty bland lately. 03s were disappointing & 04s were like smoking air. I have noticed a great return to form in mid 07- from June on. My JUN & JUL 07s are great. Your FEB 07s might still be from that bland period.

Bass...I have noticed by your reviews/input that you prefer more robust, flavorful sticks...as do I. If I am incorrect, please forgive me. My SLB of BBF's from POS DIC 06 is just that. They do need some time, but the 3 I have tried are solid. No blandness at all, just a little harsh from their youth. I look forward to their development and have hidden them in my humi so not to grab one again prematurely.
