GoatLocker Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 » 1. It should be something special. It should have a unique charachteristic » which is being celebrated. Too many El's to date have been hum ho. » 2. Regional releases should be scrapped and they should be chanelled » through the LE series. » 3. Dark wrappers should be dropped or offered as an option. » 4. Boxes should be numbered. » 5. Celebration and release of some smaller gauge LE. » 6. More smaller packaging. 10's are great and not budget busters. » » Ideally, The Habanos blurb on an LE should be like this: » » Welcome to the Por Larranaga Magnum LE. This famous vitola was » discontinued in 1977 and was charachterised by it's rich, sweet and » powerful presence. Our master blender, Enrique Brinones, has recreated » this great cigar by Blending____________________________ » ____________________________ from the plantations of » ________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________ » The filler, wrapper and binder has been aged for 3 years by » ________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________ » » 20,000 cigars have been rolled and each one of the 2000 boxes are » individually numbered. Wish Habanos SA would listen to this. Right now, EL is the butt of jokes, like "Edicion Unlimitada". The above would make them into something special. Unfortunately, as they are, they are just a mass produced cigar that is only produced for one year.

maui Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Some of the EL's are well worth the extra dough but not all. For instance the Hoyo Pyramid EL is fantastic while the RYJ 2005 EL, well that's a different story.
waldo Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 » Do you feel that the Edicion Limitadas and premium priced marques such as » Cohiba or Trinidad are necessarily worth the premium? The worst cigar I ever tried to smoke in my whole life was a Monte D EL. Couldn't get it to draw if you hooked up a shop vac to it. I really doubt if I'll ever buy another EL after that experiance. OTOH, The newer HDM Petit Robusto SLBs were some of the finest constructed (and presented) Habanos I've seen in a while. Even though they are a milder smoke, they were *perfect* in every respect.
cvm4 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Good thread here guys with a lot of good information. I for one think that EL's aren't really worth the hype they produce. The Mag50 seems flat, the RyJ PP was too tannic/harsh to smoke and I haven't smoked the Monte D thus far. That being said, I would rather Habanos S.A. bring back some discontinued cigars, i.e. RA898V, R.A. Corona, Punch SS#2, H Upmann Super Corona, etc. I think Habanos S.A. took tobacco from the regular cigars so they could make the EL's. Which is just wrong in my book, IMHO ;-)

They include Cohiba Pyramid, Sublime, HdM Pyramid, PSD 1, and PSD 2. But I totally agree with posters above they should bring back consistency to mainstream smokes like MC2 and Esplendidos, and continue production to RA 898 and Super Coronas.
genevapics Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 So before the advent of the EL's were there any other special releases (excluding the anniversary editions)?
Taino Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 To me this is a question that has direct relation with you budget and hobby/addiction with cigars. Would a US$ 100 bottle of wine be 5 times better than a US$ 20? I Don’t think so. But anyway if you are a wine enthusiast and have the money you will probably buy it. With cigars the same, there are some very nice EL, twice as good as a regular production, don’t know. I’ve thought always in EL as cigars to be put away for some years so I’m betting on them.
Mel Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 My wife thinks they are all a waste of money. Does her opinion count? Many guys in here so many opinions could be expected. Many strokes for the many folks and wallets of all magnitues. I do like some of the ELs and choose for myself when to buy.
HabanaT Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Hello all, First post, In regards to the LE. The Partagas SDN4 reserva are a Numbered batch of 5000.The tobacco is from 2000 crop, aged for 3 yrs in Cuba. In a varnished display box that looks fantastic. Very Expensive. The rest of the limited are aged at least 2 years.
