El Presidente Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Have any of our esteemed members motorbiled through parts of South America? For 2007 we want to arrange a 7-9 day motorbike tour through a part of South America the week prior or post the Havana Festival (last week of February). 6-8 riders. Does anyone have any experience riding through South America and if so, which country would they recommend + an operator if you used one.

Prez, no experience with motorbiking but did want to point out that you did recently have an "accident" on your motor bike. Are you sure this is the best idea? If this trip does happen, make sure the will is in order and someone is able to take over the shop (Lisa). ;-)
n2advnture Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 These guys are in my neck of the woods and may know of a company specializing in tours of other countries. (I know there was one but can't for the life of me remember the name!). http://www.motorcycletours.com/home.htm
JMH Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Be sure to watch 'The Motorcycle Diaries' before setting off.
strayvector Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 How about taking the Baja 1000 ride? The race is the most popular off road race here in north America, and since it utilizes existing roads and tracks anyone can ride the trail. A few friends of mine rode the trail 2 years ago on quads and dirtbikes and had a blast. Here's some info on the race: http://www.score-international.com/
smk819 Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Cruising back and forth by Ipanema Beach has many of the finest sights in S.A.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 While not quite Rossi I can actually ride a moto albeit I have a safety record which is appaling. The most challenging tour I have been on was a Cigar, Fly fishing and dirtbike tour I had organised over 2200 km through the rainforests and savana of North Queensland. The type of country where you do not see anyone else for days at a time. Plenty of crocs (makes river crossings interesting.....I remember saying to the bike "please don't konk out...please don't konk out"), plenty of steep tracks and plunging falls with metre deed gouges after the wet season. Well, true to form I went airborne 4 hrs into the trip and hit a eucalypt at 60 kmh. Luckily, I threw the bike while in the air and hit the tree on my chest. Knocked out cold with three broken ribs. The boys managed to get me back on the bike and although a tad painfull. I rode the next 1950 km drugged up and strapped....but I made it :-D By the way, all but two of the guys below are FOH members :-) For me...a day on a bike without pain is a bonus !LOL!
