Humidor

Recommended Posts

I bought a bigger humidor last week it's the Cuban Crafter, I followed the instruction for break-in but it still reads 58% from a digi hygro and it's on day 5, my old humidor from the same brand did not take that long at all, It's got a very good seal to it. Do I have to let it sit there a little bit longer? any word of wisdom.

Put a cup of distilled water in there to should bring it up in a couple of days.

Stick a flash light in the humidor and turn it on shut the top of Humi.

Than turn lights off in the room and if you see a light than you know your humidor does not have a tight seal its an old trick i read about a while back.

» » Have you checked the hygo's calibration (salt test)?

»

» Yes I tried the salt test, it went up to 72% but when I put it in the

» humidor it gradually drops down to 58%.

That means your hygrometer is reading 3 points low, so your in humidor reading is 61%.

What are you using for humidification?

I'm using a solution 50/50.

I have had a couple of humidors take much more time than just a few days - even had one go close to a month before I felt it had hydrated up to a good level.

Break in times would vary quite a bit I imagine depending on how they were stored?

Without knowing all the specifics of your particular situation, if you have not already done so, wet and

install your humidifier(s), and as Jimmy has suggested, put a small bowl of distilled water inside.

If your humidor has only one humidifier, you may want to add a second. And in the future, you

may want to consider changing out the foam humidifier(s) and PG for beads or bead pucks.

Also, if your weather is very dry right now, it might make it a bit more difficult to get the humidity up,

but at 61%, you're only a few points low, depending on what humidity you like to maintain.

Didn't read this before - I always use a container of water for break in - after the wood is hydrated; I add humidifing device.

So simple. I have been wondering whether my cheap desktop was any good or not because I can't get it to keep humidity. Great tip!

It's a brand new humidor filled the humidifier with 50/50 solution using a crystal gel hunidifier that I bought separately and let it sit there for 5 days, 5 days later it still reads 61% filled the other humidifier that came with the box with just regular distilled water and left it there for 3 days still it's reading 61%, and yes I calibrated the hygo using salt method and I did the flash light test and it's great idea by the way. the box got a realy good seal.

Fill the thing up with Cigars. It is very hard to maintain a constant humidity with an empty humidor. Fill the thing up. 61% will not hurt your cigars at all. Some people prefer to smoke at this RH. I bet when you have them in there it will jump to 65% quickly.
