I am almost certain that I am ordering an Avallo 1000 shortly and I am looking for some cigars to add to the cabinet when they arrive. I chose these two cigars because they were on the cheaper side, just to add something quick. I do not have any full CC boxes for the humidor ( I have been flying through my Partagas Shorts, the 50 Cab was great right out of the box). I have never smoked the RG Panetelas, but I have smoked the Petit Corona, it was OK. I do like like the H Upmann for a cheap smoke.

Do you guys have any suggestions on any less expensive CC's. Like I said I just want to have a few boxes so I can start filling my cabinet.

Thank you

Since you have not ordered the Avallo yet--

Not sure I understand the logic of buying an expensive, relatively small cabinet and then looking for inexpensive cigars.

You can set up a coolador for next to nothing, or buy a fridge for about $250 and then buy some great cigars with the money you would save compared to the small Avallo.

You know, even a $250 box of cigars is only $10 a cigar. Ten bucks for an hour or two of pleasure, about the same price as going to a movie.

Sorry I didn't really answer your question but I think you will be much happier smoking great cigars and storing them in a mediocre container than the reverse of this!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I plan on buying better cigars, I just wanted to start stocking it as soon as I get the humidor. Instead of just having singles in there, I thought I would purchase two boxes of inexpensive cigars to take up space for now. Plus it is a great way to add 50 cigars to my collection for a relatively small investment. My next purchase is going to be either the Cohiba Maduro Secretos or Punch Punch.

I wanted to get other members input on what they would purchase. Do you have any recommendations for what I should purchase in this price range.

Thank you

It's been some years since I've smoked them, as I've gotten deeper into the realm of smoking fewer and better*, but I used to like RyJ No.2 Tubos as a modestly priced, enjoyable smoke.

The cheaper PLs (Montecarlo, etc) aren't bad for the money either, IMO.

*which ends up costing more in the short-to-medium term, as I need variety, and aging. :lookaround:

I would suggest any of the perlas or minutos for a good, quality short smoke. Boli CJ, RASCC, SCDLH El Principe, etc. They're actually all pretty good, IMO, and it usually takes me 45 minutes or so to smoke one properly.

Partagas PC Especials have been good to me. And really, since you are willing to throw down the bones for HUp coronas major, which I like, you might as well consider regular line PC's. The price difference is negligible. You gotta have Bolivar PC's, Monte4's are a rite of passage and good now, 2007 Diplomatico 4's are pretty killer. Great way to experience the core of a marca.

Sometimes paying the extra 20 bucks or so for a hand-rolled box can make a substantial difference in the quality of a Cuban cigar. It's worth it.

I agree with you. I like the feisty Partagas Petit Corona Especiales. They dont seem to get mentioned often. Like others said. RASCC, Bolivar Corona JR.

If you are looking for a affordable way to quickly fill your cabinet and start aging, I would not overlook the Quintero Brevas. Give them two years and I doubt you'll regret it. With some age, IMHO they are the best value stick Cuba has to offer!

RASCC are indeed very good and often very reasonably priced.

I suspect I may be in a minority of one here but I like the RG PE for what they are. I think they are the best TC cuban by quite some distance. The light floral, and spiced cedar RG taste is clearly evident.

If, however, you were thinking of buying from an internet vendor I would not advise them as they really do need very scrupulous checking for overfilling.

(that is of course unless you know of a reliable, trustworthy and very knowlagable source who might check them for you if you ask nicely and smile sweetly.)

RG Panetelas Extras is a very good choice IMHO. I have been smoking RG PE for the last 15 years, with an average of 5-6 boxes per year, and the quality/price is unbeatable ( 33 € a box in Spain) over the years. The boxes from 2006 are the best from the last 8- 10 years.I haven't smoke 2007 boxes yet.

Last saturday i smoked one Edmundo and later one RG PE, and the panetela had more typical Montecristo taste than the Edmundo (which is 8 times more expensive).Maybe the RG filler was made with Montecristo leftovers and the Edmundo was very bland.
