frostvaladez
Hello to all F.O.H. I just recently recieved a box of Partagas serie D No. 4 from a source in Spain. My source is a large retail chain specializing in habanos so i never felt a need to question their authenticity. But this last order had a few things that made me wonder. mabey someone out there can help me. First of all the bands on the cigars were not embossed they were flat and glossy. the box codes are PUB or 8.AG or 6. OO7 i hope this information means something to someone out there.thank you for taking the time to read my story. your F.O.H. brother...Nick. Nick, I've read of legitimate boxes coded PUB JUL07 , so PUB AGO07 (August 2007) sounds like a reasonable code. The bands sound kind of worrisome, but stranger things have happened. I would do two things: 1. Get opinions of your source from folks knowledgeable about the Spanish market (I don't know it well at all). 2. Smoke one. They're pretty distinctive, and if they taste right, then I wouldn't worry much.

I know a huge amount of fakes was seized in Spain not too long ago. One of the shops that sold them is called Magellan or sthg like that. Could you post a picture of the cigars (open box) and of the box code?

Buy from a reliable and proven sole source such as a boutique international vendor where the proprietor is not only accessible, but makes an effort to visit with you on your turf. gostgost
Nick, I would check your source and do some investigating as you should be able to find some reliable sources on the internet because the code is good but the labels don't sound hopeful can you attach a picture to your next post? Taino
What the others said but if you know well the brand and vitola, smoke one, that could be the best proof you need. In spite of quality control, you could see a lot of weird stuff coming out of Cuba, in terms of packaging but nothing can beat the smoking proof (at least to me)
El Presidente
If someone close to Nick (who knows their D4's) has a young D4 cigar...send it to him. Nick...you send that person one of yours. Do a comparison review.
