Colt45 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Hi Thomas. I am no expert, and pictures can be a bit deceiving, but it does seem as though you have a smorgasbord of fonts, colors, and band widths. One place to start would be Ginseng's fine site - www.vitolas.net. I'm sure members will chime in and give you more insight.
Ben Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I swear just about the only thing counterfeited more than Cohiba sticks would be Yankee caps.
Thomas Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 » » I agree with Colt Thomas. Spend some time on Wilkeys site. There is no » better in order to determine counterfeights. It is a very intriging site, although most of the pictures didn't load. I was able to follow the EL 06 thread and one thing I have learned is that it appears I will need a magnifying glass to tell these apart, totally impossible to declare any of them fake by these photo's although the EL was crap and it took 2 days to smoke, while another cohiba was heavenly and I couldn't put it down til it burned my fingers,,,go figure
n2advnture Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Wow....that are getting good! They all look legit to me but the proof is in how they smoke. good grief ~M
Colt45 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 » They all look legit to me but the proof is in how they smoke. » I agree - it's especially difficult to discern with the way gold photographs. I would not be surprised if the bands are legit. I'm very interested to see how this pans out.
Mel Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 A question to the group please, are all of the real Cuban bands identicle? I know when I do wall paper I have to care about dye lots because of color variations. Will the Cuban printers have the same problem? I sure know they screw up all the time stamping the box codes.:-| Here is my best advice. Don't buy from all over the place.

Starting with ink pigments, there is also ph balance of fountain solutions, cylinder / blanket pressure, how ink dries between units, etc. The actual paper can also have a big impact. In the end, companies are usually very stringent when it comes to maintaining consistency of logos over the course of multiple printings.

Colt45 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Just to add - in my opinion, the cigar and band at the top of the photo look the worst. The C seems thinner on the top and bottom, with a wider opening. Also, it seems that the white squares are a bit too big - that there should be a little more black in between the white. Once again, I defer to the more knowledgeable on the board. P.S. When you have time, scrutinize the cursive details of the H in Habana, and the C in Cuba. Do all the bands match each other? It's hard to tell from the photo.
