Claudius Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 » » I just realised that you want a "general" watch and also a » limited » » version for FOH members? What's the idea here? One to offer to, » err... » » Friends of Oris (the general public) and a smaller batch for FOH » members? » » I suppose they would be the same watch, just one numbered and the other » » not? Like the Trinidad Farmhouse :-D Or not? I'm not sure I » understand » » the concept. » » Claudius as a shameless retailer I was a very big fan of the Trinidad » Farmhouse process.....release a LE....and then when they were popular » release another 400 un numbered :-D Only kidding mate. It was a disgrace » and I made my opinion loud and clear not that any body listened where it counted. LOL! :-D » I am not sure where I would go with this watch. If there is enough FOH » interest I would do a limited edition run of a special design. If not then » I would do a 1000 run for the general Habanos market. There is flexibility » in the process. If I did a general run I would number a FOH run with a » special incription and the balance would be generic. Sounds good! » At this point I am more focused on design :-) Well, telling from the answers on here and the poll results, I guess you can narrow it down to 3 or 4 designs already :-)
Tom Bolivar Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I see some very nice watches there. Let me know if you need help directly here in Switzerland. You got me email. ;-)
COJ Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Number 5, 7 and 10 is GREAT looking watches...but US$1900 :-( After all...there is a watch in my cellphone...
Claudius Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 » Number 5, 7 and 10 is GREAT looking watches...but US$1900 :-( » » After all...there is a watch in my cellphone... Funny you mention that: I've used my cellphone as a watch for the past 10 years... Regarding the price, I have to say that 2k sounds reasonable, plus it's the retail price (implying members get a discount... right?). If it were 500, I wouldn't want it as I'd feel that I bought a cheap watch with a fancy dial and a 300% markup. A proper watch with the world timer than won an award (hopefully an independent one ;-) :-D) with a 300% markup sounds much better
COJ Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 » Funny you mention that: I've used my cellphone as a watch for the past 10 You are nowhere close to being alone about that... :-D
cvm4 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Man, a lot to pick from. I don't really like the black bands too much. So I'd have to go for Watch #1, #7, #8, #10, and #11.
Tone_NY Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 1, 5 and 8 appeal to me. Let us know when and if they become available.
stever Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 5, 7 & 9. All are very striking, but 9 is most unusual. I'm partial to my Omega Seamaster, but I always keep an eye out for another timepiece.
Van55 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Great looking watches, all. But as I scanned the pictures the single word "Havana" seems puzzling to me. I suppose all FoH members who invested in one of these would understand the purpose. And I suppose there are serious trademark issues with the word "Habanos." What about "HAVANA PUROS" rather than simply "HAVANA"? Or perhaps Habanos s.a. would sell Oris/FoH a license to use "HABANOS."
Claudius Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 » What about "HAVANA PUROS" rather than simply "HAVANA"? I dont like it. Sounds like you wanted "Habanos" but werent granted it, ie loser. » Or perhaps Habanos s.a. would sell Oris/FoH a license to use "HABANOS." See El Presidente's reply above: "I will approach Habanos s.a but no doubt they will take a year or two to approve should we use the Habanos logo. Not sure I could be bothered waiting but I will approach nonetheless."
Van55 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 » » What about "HAVANA PUROS" rather than simply "HAVANA"? » » I dont like it. Sounds like you wanted "Habanos" but werent granted it, » ie loser. I have to disagree. If MRN can call them "Havana Cigars" in the title to his book the watch can say "Havana Puros" without shame in my opinion. At least it's clear it refers to cigars.
El Presidente Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 When I thing of the word Havana a few things come to mind: * The People and Friends I have there. * The cigars * The Music * The Dancing and how anyone can move that arse so hypnotically. * The Rum * The People, Cigars, Music, Dancing and Rum all combined until 5am in the morning. Cigars are but a brush stroke on a beautiful canvas. I want a watch which celebrates the totality of that world.
Cubatabaco Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 #4 #6 #8 #9 As a Rolex wearer, I am not that impressed by #5. I think the elegance of a leather band and a square face makes the watch stand out more. I like the simplicity of the Havana on these choices. The 1492 is significant to those that would wear it and make the watch a conversation piece to those that ask.
Taino Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 A small commentary on the format: why not put "La Habana" or "Habana" instead of "Havana" A connoisseur of anything, knows the language of what he is talking about.
