smokum Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I ordered a Peltier cooler device, power supply and Thermostat for my old Viking end-table humi so I can use it for storage/aging. I'll let you guys know if it works. Cost was in the 700 dollar range for the devices I ordered. Depending on size of humi you could spend more or less. Beats buying another new box.
TexaSmoke Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Is the humidor insulated? I put one of these in my cabinet, that wasn't and it caused me to have condensation issues. I ended up turning it off. Hope yours works better. Good Luck
smokum Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 No it isn't. Did the actual wood sweat or was it a case of the coller condensing and dripping ? Did you try and catch the moisture if it was dripping from the fins ?
smokum Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 Here is the semi-finished product. I insulated with 1/2 inch foam insulation. Very little condensation as of now. I think it's going to work just perfect. I used a CMT control unit with my cooler and power supply. I anyone has any thoughts on cooling a humidor I would be glad to give some tips. Insulation is definitely a must. You can order the whole set-up thru CMT controls. I added a small humidifier from them too so now it is a complete Temp/humidity controlled humi !! Perfect for the open boxes that I am smoking out of while the Aristocrat holds all my back stop...well almost all anyway !
Phailure Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Looks like a nice setup! I think the key to avoiding condensation is having a large heatsink / fan to distribute the cold. Once I have more free time, I may attempt something similar to this.
zuma Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Looks fantastic mate! If I may ask, how much did the the whole set up cost you?

Did you try and catch the moisture if it was » dripping from the fins ? The fins were dripping and I was catching the water, but eventually it got into the peltier unit and shorted. It ended up just being a big waste of money for me. Hope yours works out better.
smokum Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 It better..these peltiers arent all that cheap. I started it up uninsulated and it was dripping. Once I insulated it everything dried up. Where did you get your peltier Tex ?

I decided not to sink anymore money into it and either purchase a wine cooler and turn it into a humidor or wait a few years and get an made by a professional. I'll probably go with the wine cooler for the short term solution. BTW my cabinet has some issues with this type of system for that fact it is 6 ft tall, doesn't have a great seal, and it has a glass front. I guess I trying to say that yours should work better than mine from what it looks like.
