As the Dark Prince is a bit under the weather, and has asked us to "help out", I thought

I'd post this brief review.

Construction overall was good, though there were two breaks in the wrapper, and

a slight knot near the head.

Wrapper itself was a dull, greenish, medium colorado - not the prettiest cigar.

Draw was on the tight side, as have been the others from this box. Smoke volume

was adequate, and there were no overheating or tar build-up problems.

Taste-wise, a wonderful cigar. Salty/sweet, earthy tobacco. An overlay of deep stewed fruits.

This was a full bodied cigar from start to finish, but not harsh, bitter, or what I'd consider

strong. At the core, along with salty spiced tobacco, was what I can only describe as

a sense of all natural peanut butter - the kind you have to mix before you use it.

It was not an intense peanut butter flavor, but more of a mouthfeel / density element,

with just enough of the flavor to make me think of peanut butter.

It did not really change over the course of the smoke, but that was OK.

A great cigar.

** I'm amending the score for draw and appearance - 90 (from 92)

Thanks for the review. I really like these, although I have never found them to be overly complex but just a very tasty smoke.

I haven't had the peanut butter flavour, but I know where you're coming from with the mouthfeel/density thing, I've experienced it before in a great PSP2.

Colt that was an awful high rating for a tight cigar. Not to argue mate but if it's tight I'm subtracting points. I hate a tight stick and will pitch one if I have to wrestle with it. More of my Eminecias and Estupendos have been tight and I've had less problems with the 898. Thanks for your help since the boss is under the lurgy.;-)

Mel, I thought about that before and after I posted. I could/should have deducted more

for draw and appearance. But I gave maximum for taste and overall enjoyment.

If I was being totally objective, 89/90 would be closer to the mark.

I think the box I got from down under is 02 isn't the last year they made those? That box is still unbroken and I have a couple left from a partial box I bought from a friend. Do you like the RAG?

I got a tener of '02 from a brother. I have smoked two and they are so wonderful. I would love to have more.

I need to try the RAG as I have not gotten around to those and that size is in my wheel house.

Thanks for the review mate :ok:

These boxes of 898V can either be visual delights with oily wrappers or look like crap with eerily grey/olive wrappers. The fact ...thankfully....is that they both taste excellent.

It is a real disappointment that they are currently discontinued. I hold out hope that they will return in years to come although I have no supporting evidence except that many old school Habanos s.a people do regard this cigar highly.
