Brings back memories.... used to drink them but now shifted to Single malt whiskies and aged rums....yummy.... but its shrinking my cigar/drink fund...time to separate the funds for cigars from the drinking....;-)

Bourbon is my main drink. I like high-end, high-proof bourbons. I probably drink more George T Stagg than anything else, though I also love several Van Winkles.

That's not true. Rye whiskey has been made here for about as long as bourbon. More recently, brandy (e.g. RMS), vodka (e.g. Teton), and gin (e.g. Junipero, Sarticious) distilleries have been successfully operating.

I rarely drink bourbon anymore(scotch has definitely become my #1),but when I do it's either Blanton's,Booker's,or Maker's Mark.I took a shot of JD recently and couldn't believe I used to frequent that stuff as much as I did.:-|

i am into a lot of the small batches right now - bookers, basil hayden, etc... a good amount of van winkle, a good amount of my friend jimmy russell's reserve.

being a tennessean, a lot of my wholesale drinking is jd's gentleman jack whiskey, though.

» Pappy Van Winkles is the best though....

I'm not much of a bourbon drinker at all. My brother brought a couple bottles of Pappy 20 year old to the wedding celebration for our nephew and shared with all. I was wowed by this bourbon! Too bad it retails for $95 a bottle here in Virginia. I bought myself a bottle of Van Winkle 12 year old for about $35 for Christmas and it is not nearly as good.

I just ordered a bottle of the Van Winkle FR 20 yr. from California for $89 a bottle can't wait to try some. It is touted as the best.

Any recommendations for a newbie to bourbon? I've done alittle reading and thought I might try starting with some makers or virginia gentleman 90. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Ever since a bad hangover when i was 17 I have never touched the stuff.

I was young and stupid and didnt realise that if you just bought a bottle of jim beam and drunk it from the bottle that you might live to regret it.

Makers Mark is a good choice at less than $20 a bottle. Check out their web site. You can become a bourbon ambassador and get some free stuff and good info.
