Bookers (high octane) Makers Mark (old standby I usually enjoy these neat but have been known to ice em down one in a while.
TR Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Makers Mark and the Knob are my favs....but as of late I have been on a Martini kick....
GoatLocker Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 All of the above! Pappy Van Winkles is the best though....

Brings back memories.... used to drink them but now shifted to Single malt whiskies and aged rums....yummy.... but its shrinking my cigar/drink fund...time to separate the funds for cigars from the drinking....;-)
gabebdog1 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 » booker bakers and bazel haydens mmmmmmmmmmmmm love the stuff in the summer

JMH Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Ugh can't stand the stuff. It brings back too many bad memories from when I was 15.
rusty Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 » Ugh can't stand the stuff. It brings back too many bad memories from when I » was 15. wild turkey 101, not really into the top end bourbons, prefer a single malt for sippin
Curmudgeon Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Bourbon is my main drink. I like high-end, high-proof bourbons. I probably drink more George T Stagg than anything else, though I also love several Van Winkles.
Curmudgeon Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 » Bourbon the only spirit concocted in the good ol' USA. » That's not true. Rye whiskey has been made here for about as long as bourbon. More recently, brandy (e.g. RMS), vodka (e.g. Teton), and gin (e.g. Junipero, Sarticious) distilleries have been successfully operating.
Mikey Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I rarely drink bourbon anymore(scotch has definitely become my #1),but when I do it's either Blanton's,Booker's,or Maker's Mark.I took a shot of JD recently and couldn't believe I used to frequent that stuff as much as I did.:-|
strayvector Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 There's always a bottle of Woodford Reserve in my cabinet. This is the only thing that I make sure is available in my house.
harwellplant Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 i am into a lot of the small batches right now - bookers, basil hayden, etc... a good amount of van winkle, a good amount of my friend jimmy russell's reserve. being a tennessean, a lot of my wholesale drinking is jd's gentleman jack whiskey, though.
waldo Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I usually keep a bottle of Knob Creek around the house.:-P
MikeDeSilva1 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, and Knob Creek are staples in my house.....along with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire. MD
genevapics Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I agree regarding the Woodford Reserve. Would like to try the Van Winkles some day.
Van55 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 » All of the above! » » Pappy Van Winkles is the best though.... I'm not much of a bourbon drinker at all. My brother brought a couple bottles of Pappy 20 year old to the wedding celebration for our nephew and shared with all. I was wowed by this bourbon! Too bad it retails for $95 a bottle here in Virginia. I bought myself a bottle of Van Winkle 12 year old for about $35 for Christmas and it is not nearly as good.

I just ordered a bottle of the Van Winkle FR 20 yr. from California for $89 a bottle can't wait to try some. It is touted as the best.

Phailure Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Any recommendations for a newbie to bourbon? I've done alittle reading and thought I might try starting with some makers or virginia gentleman 90. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Maverick Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Ever since a bad hangover when i was 17 I have never touched the stuff. I was young and stupid and didnt realise that if you just bought a bottle of jim beam and drunk it from the bottle that you might live to regret it. Ross...

Makers Mark is a good choice at less than $20 a bottle. Check out their web site. You can become a bourbon ambassador and get some free stuff and good info.
