COJ Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I recently traded for a couple of hanfulls of vintage Cubans...and here is a review of one of these. Prelight inspection: Nice looking cigar, evenly rolled without any hard or soft spots. Wrapper a shade lighter then I normally prefer but it was soft as silk and had a kind of sand down texture. Cap was very well applied although it was impossible to se if it had the typical Cuban tripple cap. Cut/lighting: Cut easily with mt trusted EKA knife, after removal of the cap I niticed that little cavity underneat that often indicate that a master roller hade made the rolling. Prelight draw was easy and had a slight herbal/hay tone. Smoke: this cigar had perfect draw from fist to last puff, plent of dense smoke that was thick enough to hang in the air even if I was smoking on my balcony. Taste: This cigar was a great surprice, Diplomaticos have always been regarded by me as mild/medium...but 30 yrs down the road this cigar was medium plus..easily! Nice complex flavors, most notable where those of dry fruit, cacao and mocca. Smoked this cigar down to when I burnt my fingers and lips. Wish I had a couple of boxes of these....but at least I have one more :-D

Gryphon Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Before you set it alight, could you post a pic of it. Would love to see how it has held up to the years. Thanks

Smoked the second one today, holiday here today, and it was just as awesome as the first. This cigar was not from the same box as the first as it was very very light brown, almost had a green shimmer in some light and it had a very pronunced boxpress. So now I know that it wasnt a particulare box that have made it through 30yrs with grace.
