mr.harten Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 From what I have seen on many boards this is an unappreciated (or at least under discussed/mentioned) mareva. I really enjoy the flavor profile of the Magnum 46 and Connoisseur No. 1 and am an avowed mareva ***** so... I decided to pick up a box of these last year when Rob was running one of his PC specials. I was not disappointed. I have smoked a number so far and they just keep getting better and better. The perfect morning smoke when paired with a black coffee and a good book on the front porch. Brand: H. Upmann Name: Petit Coronas Shape: Mareva Origin: Cuba Size: 5.125 in. / 42 Date Rated: 5/27/2007 Source: Cigar Czar Price: $5.10 (USD) Box Code: BNX DIC 05 Age: 1 Year, 5 Months Appearance & Construction (1-5): 4 Nice caramel brown wrapper with no discernible soft or hard spots. Pre-light aroma of faint barnyard straw and heavy caramel and honey notes. Smoking Characteristics (1-10): 9 Perfect amount of resistance in the draw and consistent from start to finish producing ample smoke. The burn was flawless and the ash was very dense only needing to be tapped off three times. Flavor & Aroma (1-10): 9 Mild yet full of flavor. Predominant notes of bread and toasted tobacco. Initially a bit tart and tangy but these notes faded away within the first 1/3 revealing caramel and coffee beans. Subtle hints of nutmeg and spice appeared in the second 1/2. Absolutely no harshness all the way to the nub. 8.9/10
Professor Twain Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Thanks for the review. Sounds like a very good cigar. Like you, I have enjoyed the Con #1s and Mag 46s. Any comment on how the PC flavor profile compares with these two Upmann classics? I'm also curious as to whether anyone has experience with aged Upmann PCs.

In my opinion the profile is similar but milder. Consider the step down from the Mag 46 to the Con #1 and then step it down about half that much more. Definitely one of the milder smokes I enjoy.
stever Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Nice review. Have only smoked a couple of these, but have really liked them.
El Presidente Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Excellent review Some draw problems 2001-2003 but appear to have come good. Great to hear they are smoking well :-)
petey Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Box of 02's is nice and spicy/peppery, which is why I don't care for the 46's and the Conn. #1....too mild.
1f1fan Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Nice review. I really enjoy these cigars. When young (1-2 years) I find them very strong and can be a tad bit harsh for my tastes. Had some 3-5 year old examples and they were excellent...one of my favorite PC's.
