That is the literal translation of the scientific name of the tigerfish. I did a little

research after your initial photos - I wanted to see what these things feed on.

Just fish and crustaceans - unbelievable. They are related to piranhas, and if I

read correctly, neon tetras. I still can't believe the teeth!

Seriously people....unless Kens guide was casting (again) there was no way he could hook one of these.

nice comment coming from rob 'dynamite' ayala.

in all the years we have fished together, i can honestly say that i have never seen the bloke catch a fish. it was always just before i got there, or just after, or it was 'round the bend and i released it', or 'you should have seen me an hour ago'.

sad, really.

and i will state again for the record, and happily undergo polygraphs and swear on any divinity anyone requires. never, ever, has a guide caught a fish for me or cast for me; no bone or trout you see in the photos here (and i don't seem to see too many photos of rob - perhaps he caught them just before the camera arrived, or perhaps it was around the bend) was caught by any guide. every single one - i cast, caught, reeled in, did the lot.

now dynamite, can you say the same thing?

Perchance, is the nickname 'dynamite' possibly a reference to his preferred method of fishing?? :-)

Something like this?

A conservation officer was driving down a country lane when a man waved him down.

“Officer! There’s a man on the pond back there fishing with dynamite! You have to stop him, he’s going to kill someone!”

The conservation officer parked and ran down to the pond. The man was just pulling his boat up on the shore. As he approached, the man seemed surprised.

“I have a report that you’re fishing illegally.”

“Really? Why don’t you come out and see for yourself.”

They launched the boat and rowed out to the middle of the pond. The man cast a line into the water while the officer watched. A moment later, he lit a stick of dynamite and tossed it over the side.

“Hey! You can’t fish with dynamite! That’s illegal!”

The man calmly pulled out another stick, lit it, and handed it to the conservation officer.

“Ya gonna talk, or ya gonna fish?” :lol2:

Freefall - I love that story...one of the few good jokes my dad told that's stuck with me over the years. Sort of related to the old saying...."easier than shooting fish in a barrel" - great visual :-|

notwithstanding that you are a cowgirls fan, you actually seemed quite sensible when we met, or is this some form of american humour that we just don't get?

heehee....some blow a lot of hot air on the topic(s) but I don't think anyone on this side of the pond really 'gets it' either....

Not likely Ken...I have seen you cringe at spiders. I mean...you took up Fly Fishing only because you couldn't bare to bait your own hook. ;-)

does complete crap just ooze out of every orifice all day?

actaully when i was younger, i had a healthy collection of snakes and lizards, which rather unfortunately i was ordered to release after one of the venomous ones (it wasn't really all that toxic, just a bit) escaped into my sister's room (that was my story and i have never waivered). we lived out at kenmore and in those days were surrounded by bush. for half the year, i would come across a snake at least every second day. it is amazing how, when they become familiar, one becomes reasonably comfortable around them and is not bothered handling them, if necessary, though not something i did very often. i drew the line at a taipan i once saw disappear into a pile of logs at high speed.

Yeah WDH they're scary animals cause they move bloody quick for a snake...

The only time I ever saw Steve Irwin shitscared was when he was trying to catch a Fierce Snake (Inland Taipan)

You are of course correct - but I just couldn't help myself. Oozing crap, referring to

the departed Smithy as "who?", and non sequiturs too numerous to count - one can't

help but guffaw.
