Ethernut Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I've read in numerous places about people getting compliments from passerbys when they smell the pure cuban cigar smoke. In your experience, what cigar would be the best fit for social gatherings where there would be others that might be offended by the smell? Does anyone here ever consider this? Which sticks fragrance arouses the curiosity of others the most? BTW, I'm not talking about the flavored bastardized cigars that are like wine coolers that want to be wine. I'm talking about pure CC's only. :-P Have any input? :-D

I would smoke a Cohiba Siglo II. It is pretty, midbodied, recognizable and well represents the Cuban tobacco. It is also small and therefore will not last forever and outstay its welcome.
Wiley Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 My wife likes to give me reviews of the smell from my cigars. No consistency though. I will tell you the one and only time my daughter ever gave my cigar's smell a positive review was when I was smoking an unusually great Diplomatico No. 4. Usually it seems like milder cigars fair better.

Get the Siglo II Tubos Mel so then you can give the peanut gallery the tube to play with and hopefully bugger off
Bernard Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 You can pull out a Double Corona and wait for the Monica Lewinsky jokes from the peanut gallery... or an Epicure 2 and sit back and enjoy it. Most times comments make me feel old....like young ladies saying the Cigars remind them of their grandfather or father. And where can you have a Cigar in peace with non-smokers, except at your own home?

But I'm glad I asked. I appreciate your efforts to answer anyway, entertaining at the very least... :-P Ether..
Stalebread Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 My wife and I were taking a walk in the neighbor hood recently. Walking in front of us was a cigar smoker. My wife said, “He can’t be smoking a very good cigar.” “What makes you say that?” I asked. “Well, when we were at your cigar dinner back in March, everyone was smoking good cigars. [lots of Bolivar Royal Coronas and PL Lonsdales] The room was full of smoke. It smelled strong but not bad. This cigar ahead of us stinks so I think it must not be a very good cigar.” I admit there may be flaws in this logic. There are probably examples of cigars that make a case to the contrary but generally I think it holds true -- premium cigars are less likely to have an off-putting aroma especially to non-smokers. So someone tell me how far off my nut I am in making this gross generalization.
Well Armed Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Last night I was halfway into a RASCC and a girl told me she thought it was the best smelling cigar she'd ever witnessed. FWIW.
mailman Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 funny, i run into almost the smae problem when i go to a bar. i'm polite and ask the bartenedr if they have any problems w/ me smoking a cigar. and then they give me this look (you've seen it before) , and then i procede to make a deal w/ them. if anyone complains about the smell i'll put it out or leave. so the deal is made. not one complaint so far and they usually come over and tell me that it smells good. ;-)
Wolfe Tone Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I, rather, try to keep only the most pleasing nonsmokers around my cigars.
