One of the memorable ones was "the perfumed scent of a mature woman," or something to that effect. Ken also just referred to the talc odor "emanating from old ladies’ handbags" in his CORO review.
asmith Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Romeo y Julieta - Exhibition No 3 - JNL ABR 04 Look: A light milky brown wrapper leaf. Not the greatest looking cigar no real sheen to the wrapper but as Rob’s mother always told him, “It’s not all about looks, it’s what’s on the inside that really counts.” Construction: A well constructed cigar with a consistent firmness along the length of the cigar. 1/3: A firm but acceptable draw at the cut with a light sweetness on the lips. An easy burn with only a thin smoke being produced. As Rob and I discussed the flavours I offered ‘green vegetable flavour,’ not a green grass flavour, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Then when I mentioned green peas Rob got it and said, “mashed green peas on a good meat pie!’ That’s was it exactly. This is not a bad thing, the cigar had a freshness to it that was quite intriguing. Although a rather mild cigar. 2/3 Moving into the second third the cigar changed from that green freshness into a sweeter, creamier cigar. For a mild cigar it is developing nicely. I thought there were some ‘bready’ undertones, then Rob’s extraordinary palette described it as only he can, ‘Smithy it tastes like a great bread & butter pudding.’ At this point I knew I would never be at his level, I was nothing more than a young grasshopper trying unsuccessfully to get the pebble from my masters hand!! 3/3 As I concentrated harder on the final third the cigar, just to live up to my masters expectations. I noticed a more intense smoke flavour and stronger sweetness coming through. Combined with a more toasty mouth feel, I thought there is only one way to describe this, like toasted raisin bread. With the comment Rob smile and said I was coming along nicely. Overall a very enjoyable afternoon smoke, that developed over the length with flavour and intensity. 87/100 or I give it a 9.5/13
