This cigar was gifted to me some months ago. Again it was a find as I was scrounging around in my singles bin for a smoke.

Construction: Wrapper was a bit rough with some veins. The smell was wonderful. Medium firmness, nicely capped. Cut cleanly, prelight pull had medium resistance.

Experience: Torched the foot, lit cleanly, and WOW right off the bat a wonderful flavorful explosion medium in strength. What a difference from the Hdm Churchill I had the other night. This stick had character right from the get go. From one draw to the next it was a flavor bomb. I have to appologize but I have a really hard time identifing what the particular trace flavors are but all I can say is this was a very complex cigar with hints of many flavors all contributing to a wonderful flavor. I had a nice glass of 20 yr old port and didn't want to take a sip because the finish of each draw was so sweet and flavorful I wanted it to remain on my lips. The only draw back on this smoke was the last 2" or so it started to get rough which was very dissapointing. It may have been because I let it go out and had to relight. Other than that this was a fantastic cigar.

Hmmm... I have a box of '02s that were fabulous. Creamy smoke, honeyed sweetness and complex woody core. But they've gone blah over the past year. Smoked one a month ago, and no sweetness at all. Not enough TLC?

You've got to show them some love. Talk to them. Encourage them to give their all to you.

That is really strange. I have a box from '02 that are really nice. I have a box from '00 that is just that much better. The cigars from '00 are sweet, creamy, and woody all at the same time. The nose on them is absolutely incredible. I've not had one go blah on me yet.

I hate it when that happens. The 5 year mark I have found to be a benchmark period for the ageing of CubanCigars. To put it simply......they change. What they do lose is their youthfull characteristics. Hopefully they display an evolution of the flavour charachters you enjoyed....but this is not always the case.

I recently acquired some 98s. I am eager to see what these are like. I'll report back when I have put a few to the fire.
