Turkey \"Hunting\"

Recommended Posts

» You shot him with the wrong thing. Use a shotgun next time.;-)

I almost thought my taunting had been wasted :lol2:

Shotgun? I got so close I could have used the .22 target pistol for a headshot -

I could have jumped him with a blade!

But seriously, they are very prevalent in the area, and usually when you see them,

you'll see them regularly for a few days, then they move on, come back, etc.

I've no idea how to judge their size - when he came out of the woods, he was all

puffed up, tail feathers spread, beard almost dragging the ground - any guess on

size with this pic?

P.S. can/do you make turkey jerky?

Colt the ultimate triumph over a gobbler is to choke him to death with your bare hands. They will attempt to spur you and flogg you and you may get hurt but that is the risk you take. How do I know this??? Many a bird is not killed by the gun and must be finished some how I choke mine.

Have you not heard of "choking the chicken"?;-)

I do not like the idea of dried poultry but some do make jerky out of the birds. If poultry must be cooked well done then there must be a reason for it.

Mel,Colt- do you have any wing feathers you can send me? I’m more than willing to pay costs.

I'm fletching some arrows and short of eagle or hawk they’re the best. Cheers.

No, I have not yet bagged my own bird.

If I had any, they'd be yours. So far, I've only shot them with a camera. On a side

note, A few years back, a large flock came out of the woods, and a couple of them

started fighting with each other. To see them flying up into the trees is comical.

Thanks for the offer Colt.

Earlier this spring I watched an 8” bearded gobbler in full strut running some little jakes away, showing them where the pecking order began. He looked like a bear cub the way he was puffed up so big. Awesome.
