Cam Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Cigars and wine? - YES! Since being in France, I have developed an obsession with obtaining wines, in pairs (ready to buy in cases) and pairing them accordingly with my favourite cigars: Todays line up, Davidoff Cuban No.2 - 2000 Chateau Peyre-Lebade, Haute Médoc, Lafite Rothschilde. Firstly I chose this cigar, because i love them so much, and I go one about them to everyone. Secondly the wine, because it matches the cigar personalities from previous tastings, Spicy, wild, fruity, cedary, oak when first served/lit. Cigar personality - Being a very old cigar, 1988, the Davidoff fired up nicely, and through the first quater burned extremely well, very very oaky and cedary, much like the RYJ petit churchill, but much less powerful. On the second and third quaters, I opened the bottle and started on my first glass. for a 2000 vintage, shes a mighty good wine, still young, could use, 10-12 years in the cell..the wine complemented the woody flavours of the cigars, as much as the cigar complemented the wine. The cigar was now showing signs of age, the draw got alot easier, although perfect at the start, not too loose, now shes starting to drag through just a little too easy, but floral notes and hints of jasmine are apparent, and the scent of old leather. The cigar finished with a very very good cedar taste, no paticular after taste so to speak of, just beautiful, with this wine she was magic. Cigar : 95/100, except for the loose draw and a little blandness which lasted seconds, she was perfect. Wine : 95/100, could do with some age, but complimented the cigar bloody well.
