Cohiba007 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 The sports arena here in Orlando where the NBA Magic play has just been renamed Amway Arena. I am a season ticket holder but have not been "hit up" yet. I will turn and run when I do though. :-D
charler Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I had an experience whereby a girlfriend's brother had a "side business", which I thought nothing of. After dating a few months, she invited me to her Brother's house where he was meeting some business associates and friends, and we decided to meet him for Sunday dinner. Going into that house yielded nothing unusual at first inspection; however looking through a bookshelf showed nothing but self-help books, all women and men were seated separately (most were married couples too), they began dinner with a religious sing-along interspersed with a motivational speaker on a tape recording, and these was no alcohol anywhere (I was looking for a beer after meeting this crew). I naturally realized something was awry, and watched as things just got weirder. Amway was never mentioned, but I later learned it was a meeting with "Quixtar" or one of those satellite companies. Simply bizarre - glazed looks everywhere, regimented language, gender segregation - and a resounding certainty that some Jim Jones type was going to walk in the door any moment. Afterward, I spent some time researching how Amway resembles a religious cult, and found a couple of good resources, among them: "Amway Sucks Homepage" http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Amway/ and - www.merchantsofdeception.com/ One is written by a professor that compiles legal documents damaging to the company, and the latter is written by an escapee who published an online book detailing his experience. Figured I'd pass this along for anyone curious how bizarre these people are. And if you're wondering, me and the girl didn't last too long after that evening.
skindiver Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 For dealing with religious fanatics, I think Kevin Bloody Wilson's song, "The festival of Life" says it best! Funny stuff!!
Ken Gargett Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 » It happened to ma again last week. The phone call from a good mate who I » had not seen for a while. The conversation quickly turned from family to a » business proposition he wanted to put forward. I immediately asked if it » was Amway or similar and if it was...I wasn't interested. He insisted it » was not and I said then sure pop on over for a cigar and a wine which he » duly did last night. You guessed it....Amway was unfolded before me as the » great business opportunity of all time. » » Is this a cult? Is deception the only way to get in the door? What makes a » once sensible, rational, ethical human being lie outright to a friend of » long standing albeit one who he has not seen for a few years? » » When I asked him these exact questions he simply looked me in the eyes and » said the opportunity was simply too good to miss at any price. » » I kicked him out after telling him to pull his head out his arse and » rediscover the essential elements of decency. After the injured pup and » other things I was in no mood for idiots. » » This is twice in three weeks. Does it happen to anyone else? not any more. not after sending idiots who do it to the wilderness. am back tuesday for a day. fished today - four trout between 4 and 5lbs. one more day to go. i am absolutely exhausted.

Mel Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I am hurt and outraged!!! I am worth millions today because of Amway. How do you think I afford all these expensive cigars?;-) Jim Jones was my uncle and David Koresh a best buddy. My wife is a Druid witch and my father a Knights Templar. Am I on the wrong web page?:-( :-D :-D I used to be polite to these advances but not anymore. I get a lot more trouble with telemarketers.
