cvm4 Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Just wondering what Aussie's pay to enjoy their cigars? Here in the USA it varies by state, my state is 15% + 7% sales tax. That made me quickly convert to smoking habanos only real quickly ;-) :-D

My local B&M had to close because they were taxing them the 35% on the existing inventory. Very sad that they just do not let people enjoy a cigar.
El Presidente Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 We pay on weight. Tax is increased to CPI (inflation) every February and September. Currently at $289 per kilo of tobacco weight. Ouch!

Vetteman Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Ouch is right! Tax here is 30% of wholesale. It was reduced from 48% a couple years ago, but it's still too much.
cf2112 Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Missouri is 10% for the state (they have a bill to raise it to 40% it has failed to get a vote for a couple years but someday they'll sneak it in) and 6-8% sales tax depending on which city you buy them in.

Spud2 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 In Michigan (USA) add 32% to wholesale, plus 6% sales tax on retail. They tax mail order cigarettes but not cigars in this state. That makes tax free mail order for Habanos and Dominicans the way to get more smoke for your buck here.
GoatLocker Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 You Aussies get raped on your tabacco taxes! Traveling much around the Pacific and middle east, y'all have the highest priced cigars I've seen. Canada is 2nd.
