Cam Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 what's everyones opinion, I know here in New Zealand they are quite expensive, I mean, how have you guys found them to smoke, the first one I had was pathetic I felt like shoving it up the tobbaconists nostril for reccomending it. Then again it was my second ever cuban and I was somewhat in experienced. anyone reccommend a specific size and or type, if you can i'd really love to start exploring this mysterious brand :-D
Stahlberg Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 » what's everyones opinion I just smoked my first Trinidad yesterday night, it was a Reyes (all they had). It came in its own cardboard box so I couldn't find out the code from the salesgirl. It cost about 16 usd. I'll give you my impression but bear in mind I'm a noob. I drank water with it (for a change). Not much smell or taste cold, very good construction, First puffs were great (as all cigars I've tried lately), then it settled down to being a bit bland (also like some others I've had lately). Later, some minor spice flecks, some hints of candy that might have been imaginary, a fleeting glimpse of butter (which I personally don't like). Not harsh at all, just a bit bland... I nubbed it and it lasted 50 minutes. Not sure if I'll buy it again.
Cam Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 lol well I felt the same, apart from being extremely firey in parts, trinidad either blows ur head off or is totally bland, i think more consistency is required before I buy boxes.
cigardawg Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I have mixed feelings about the Trinidad marque. The Fundadores is one of my favorite cigars. I have never had a bad one. Nose, burn, taste...it's all there. Now, I have also smoked the Coloniales and the Robusto Extra...neither did a thing for me. They were both rather flat and not much to my liking. However, construction was excellent.
anacostiakat Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I look for Trinis on special. That being said, I have smoked a number of Reyes and love them! Great short smoke and one of the best! I have only smoked a few Fundys but I think they are one of the best complex cigars made. Have a couple 12 count boxes set aside for now. Also I have smoked a few of the REs and found them flat. I am letting the dozen remaining out of a 15'er sit. I have to get some Coloniales. :-D
jay8354 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 If you want to try what a good cuban cigar of the thin gauge variety - go with the Trinidad Funi. It is one of my personal favorites. However, they are not cheap by any means. Which is why I always make sure that I take my time with them. Speak with Rob and he will get a good one to convert you to thin gauge cigars.
habanohal Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I would put the Trinidad lineup at my top of the list for best cigars smoked. But I will never drink water while smokeing a cigar, washes away all the flavor. I stick with Diet Coke :-D
