Any fans of the H. Upmann Petite Corona?

Smithy and I have had a half dozen 05 offerings over the past week. Crap each and every one of them. Flavourless, papery....crap. I have had some fine tasty examples over the years...but such occurences have always been rare. In the main I have always found them to be Habanos fraudsters. Look good, deliver sweet F""K all.

Right now I need someone to tell me I am wrong.To tell me that they just love these gems for the following reasons..............

I have been disappointed with all of the recent Upmann offerings, including the No. 2, Connaisseur No. 1, and Mag 46. They're bucking the overall positive trend.

Any idea what's going on?

I recieved an Upmann PC from a trade and loved it. You mean they are not all good? I was consodering adding it to the collection.:-(

I have been smoking through a box from '01 that are fantastic. Definitely in my top 5 marevas and when really on, possibly breaks the top 3.

I have not, however, tried more recent offerings. I have a box of 03s that I have not cracked as of yet. Might have to...in the name of scientific discovery, of course.

I smoked a box of #4s which I think are the same. Not problems at all. Very rich in flavor . Almost as rich as the Lonsdales

That is what I wanted to hear John. I have had some fine examples but have also had far too many bland ones. I just neded some inspiration to go on......

My '03s have been fantastic. Very rich, full-flavored. Have some 05s I haven't tried yet, I'll let you know.

I have some from 03. (SEU Feb 03 - I think). These are fantastic. Nice looking wrapper too.

Maybe your tastes are changing El Prez? At one point my tastes was changing. I never did give notice to the SLR Serie A. Now I can't get enough of these. I've even transferred a box into my go-to humi.

Maybe its just me.

Like some other guys here I have had some 03's that were fantastic. Young PC's in my experience (04 smoked in 04) have been very strong and harsh (not enjoyable but the potential was there to be great in a 2,3, 5 years!)

It seems I experienced the opposite problem you had - strong and harsh vs. flavorless

I have a box of 05's...I'll try one tonight and report back.

Smoked the HU PC from 05 the other night and it wasn't very good.

All the young HU PC's I've smoked have been disappointing, harsh, one-dimensional, rolled-up cardboard crap.

Time to put these in the cooler where I keep my aging stock...these are worthless without at least 2 years of age....3-5 even better.

You could be right and based on that chance I will smoke a SLR Serie A today and complete a review. I will also try to dig up a 3-5 year old Upmann PC and do the same.

It is all about research folks ;-)

Thanks for talking me out of buying a box of them. Was going to pull the trigger this week since I love the Upmann corona. Hmm...guess I'll get Reyes instead.

Ill just reiterate what I said in the review thread... just started on a box of 05 that are pretty damn good IMHO, still a bit early to tell but they are showing nice promise
