Hi all:

I thought you might be interested in a brand new product I just purchased and received. It's the first DOT approved container for transporting a butane or oil lighter (that means torches, too!) legally in your checked baggage.

I'm not sure if it's approved for flights outside of the U.S. It is called the Colibri "Tranzpack", and is available for $14.95 at [link=www.cigarsinternational.com ]www.cigarsinternational[/link] It's a high impact yellow plastic cylinder measuring 6 inches in length and 2.5 inches in diameter. You unscrew it to place your lighter/torch in the foam interior insert.

I can post photos if anyone is interested.

Actually it's the scond such container. Though the first was designed for Zippo lighters with traditional Zippo fuel, the Zippo's with the butane inserts can legally be transported in them.

I tried to order one of the Colibri Tranzpacks on line last week for a plane trip I am taking in 3 weeks, only to learn that they were already sold out. These are a great idea for US traveling smokers. I hate haveing to buy a cheapo Bic at my destination. From what I have read over at the Habano Cigar Family forum, these have successfully made it through actual inspections of checked luggage.

I have successfully taken two trips with the Tranzpack in my checked luggage, with a butane lighter in the Tranzpack. Both have been successful, Tampa round trip to Washington D.C. and Tampa to Birmingham, AL.

BUT, I'm not completely sure that the Tranzpack gets the credit--I have not had any indication that they opened and inspected my bag to even see the Tranzpack.

An inspector would have to be blind to miss the note on the Tranzpack that this container is has been approved by the DOT.

I do like bringing my lighter along. I don't smoke inside at home, and I often rent smoking hotel rooms when I am on the road, so my cigar intake increases when I travel.

Good luck to everyone finding these, I got mine on Ebay.

I found one and bought it at my local shop today.

When all I had to go on were photos, I was concerned that this thing would not hold a larger size torch. In fact, it's nearly the size of a beer can and easily holds my Blazer CG-100 lighter.

I was fortunate to have a friend (Thanks PT) that was able to secure a couple of these and gave it to me, it is the size of a Bright Yellow Beer can with all the markings that only a totally Blind man could miss. I look forward to testing it out one day. It is very nice to know that I have it when the occasion comes around.

Saw these at the RTDA and was interested in purchasing a shipment for our Aussie members. Unfotunately it does not appear that they are deemed acceptable outside of the USA. At least not at this time.

I know a few of you have read this on other boards but my Dad travels weekly with his...for the past six weeks.

He has the TSA inspection slip in his checked bag with the Tranzpack, indicating the bag had been opened and inspected, several times without any comlications.
