CIGARHead Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Well, on the recommendation of FreefallGuy, I went and got one bad arse butane kitchen torch supposed to be used for creme brulee. I got mine at William Sonoma because I had a gift certificate that I swiped from the wifey's purse that was a wedding gift. This may be one of the best purchases in the lighter dept. one could make. Its big, so its def a table top lighter for the porch at home, but this thing rocks. No need to push the ignition multiple time like I do w/ my Prometheus and it has an ignition lock so you dont have to hold the button while lighting your cigar. In a land of overpriced, half ass lighters it appears we have a winner.
Colt45 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I've been interested in these since reading about them in the previous thread as well (I couldn't find the thread). How are they refilled? That's my main concern, as that seems to be the biggest problem with regular torch lighters. Thanks for any info.

On the same shelf as the torch was a big can of Vector Butane. I picked that up as well. You fill it just like any butane lighter, and the fuel capacity is grande;-) If you get one, be sure to bleed out the air that is in the torch before you fill er up with butane. Just push the intake stem to release the excess air. Hope that helps ya man.
Colt45 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Thanks CH. It sounds like a must-have. Bed Bath Beyond shows two versions - one of them being the same as the one shown on Williams Sonoma. I'll have a look soon.

The thing is a bad ass. On high flame you could probably light 3 cigars ata time:-D Let me know what ya think if you get one.

cananoza Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Maverick, There are other alternatives in Australia. Try a Prince GT3000 there are great. Not only can you adjust the gas coming out of the jet you can regulate the air and butane mixture ratio as well, so the flame doesnt get too hot. I dont know where you can get them in Brisbane but if you are interested i can tell you where you can get them in sydney or melbourne. » Does anyone know whether these are readily available in Brisbane? » » Ross...
Freefallguy Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Yeah, that torch is da bomb isn’t CH! I’m not one to touch up a stick unless it really runs astray, but found myself touching up a Parti corona about a half dozen times Monday night, just because I could. Gotta love that lighter! (BTW, the smoke was top notch, left me with a wonderful taste on the tongue all the next day!) As you said, it’s not one you carry out to a herf, but I found a very cool compact piezo type lighter in the welding section of Lowe’s. It uses that same fuel, and is marketed for staring welding/soldering torches or camping use. It has maybe half the flame of the brulee torch, but is a very nice alternative for only $9! Now, about nicking your wife’s WS cert… Trust me, you'll pay in the end CH! Cheers mate!
Mel Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Got to get me one. I am anal about my lighters. I use a triple torch and have five or six of them just in case one goes out. I am taking a fishing trip to Alaska in Aug. and I am going to have two new lighters shipped out ahead of me.

CIGARHead Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 » Just buy a nice Colibri.....they rock!! Why buy a Colibri when your a dragon?:-D
genevapics Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Great idea CIGARHead. Looking to get one myself. Thanks for the heads up!
guilow Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Sounds like a good idea. I am so sick of my Colibri lighters. If you get below 50 degrees (F) they don't work worth a crap when my el-cheap torch lighters work just fine.
Fatshotbud Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Thanks for the input - was looking for a new toy.

Hi Canonoza, Please could you advise me also where I can get one in Sydney? For something that is not as flashy, but possibly cheaper for those in OZ: [link=http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8752440748&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BID_Stores_IT]Link[/link] Not sure if I am breaking the rules El Prez, if I am ley me know and I will remove the link.
mgillett Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Likewise on the rules thing but I think I have seen them at Victoria's Basement at the QVB a few months back. Apart from that, any cooking/chef supplies store would stock something similar.
PigFish Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Occasionally when I am being lazy… I pick up a torch used for sweating copper in the garage to light my stogie. This is a bad habit of mine and it may be one of yours so let me post a warning before you all go out and buy a torch. Many of these commercial torch application fuels are odorized. You know that smell of gas that you got when you found beetles in your humidor and attempted to kill yourself by sticking your head in the oven??? Yeah… that smell! Well take a shot of the gas from the canister and see if it stinks. If so it will stink up your cigar as well, especially if the torch does not combust completely. Just a word of warning! -Piggy
