Ken Gargett Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Attractive dark wrapper but I’m still to be convinced that this cigar delivers all it promises, despite how popular it is. For me, it lacks subtlety. Quite full-flavoured and forward, it has plenty of earthy notes and some coffee bean. It just seems to have all the ingredients for something special but doesn’t come across that way. This is all a bit harsh as it is quite enjoyable if one is looking for that big blast and this one did increase the power towards the finish. Burn and draw more than acceptable. 88. Rob: You are ether a R&J Churchill man or you are not. I have found that those who smoke R&J Churchills smoke bugger all else but R&J Churchills. I enjoy them. Rich and fruity sweet....strong. 89
SMOKOZUNA Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Thanks for the review Ken. I've smoked one from '98 that had a sweet, unique flavor to it. One of the best Churchills out there if properly aged. The tube seals in all the yummy flavors.
Ken Gargett Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 hi smokozuna i hear good things and i know a lot of folk love them (i see also that ben in 'best of the rest' nominates them) and i hope to be convinced, but so far they have not set bells ringing. kbg
Ken Gargett Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 as with the punch punch and part short, my notes on these re ones smoked back home, as opposed to Cuba, are far more positive. i can only put it down to the ones we tried in Cuba being so very young.

It's also possible that you smoked too many cigars in Cuba that your taste buds were shot!!!
Ken Gargett Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 possible? more than likely, might be closer. everything still tastes like pork and black beans.
froghair Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 i found a few years ago i was getting afew plugged RyJ churchills but being one of my favorite cigars i keep on going back to them. the last box i had were all fantastic. the flavour profile has changed slightly from a few years ago though.
