Professor Twain Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Great photo, and you are to be congratulated for waiting a year to try it. I think there is also some virtue in posting a review when a cigar doesn't suit your taste, what may be a great cigar to one can be a dud to another.
JMH Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Awesome shoes, where can I get a pair? ;-) Sorry about the cigar :-(

I agree with the posting the review when the cigar was sub par... to many guys just wait for an awesome smoke to post a raving review, its just as beneficial for everyone if reviews of smokes are posted when they arent so great. That being said I've heard good things about the RA gigantes, must have been a dud... guess Ill have to try one for myself and find out :-P
CigarZen Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Have you guys noticed this with RAGS? I have a box from 02 (OSU FEB 02, if I recall) that I have been smoking through. The ones I smoked new were bland. Had muted mild flavors. A disappointment. So I left them alone. Recently I sample a couple, wow what a difference -- strong and flavorful. They are different cigars.
bassman Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I have a box from mid 02 that are excellent cigars, yet a good friend gave me a few from 01 that have little flavor. Puzzling indded.
cigardawg Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I have yet to smoke a RAG that did anything for me. Tastes nothing like the RASS or RASCC. They have all been bland and muted.:-(
El Presidente Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Great review Waldo and I agree...positive and negative reviews are welcome. Ken and I bag the crap out of cigars all the time All I can say is that I have yet to have a bad RAG. Fresh or aged I enjoy them immensely. What I can say is that they are the best camping shoes I have ever seen. I didn't realise NASA has a clothing disposal store:lol2:
tandblov Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I have to aggree with Rob on this one... The RAG has been my favorite DC bar none. Recently, I have discovered a love for a Boli CG, but nothing beats a great RAG. Herby, Floral and sweet in a way that tips my hat.... To me, the RASCC comes fairly close in flavor but is more "intense", a lot more so than a RASS...

They are different cigars. Yes, I have noted this "evolutionary" process with RA's in general. My '02 RA 898's were rich and tasty in '04, went somewhat "blah" in '05, and are again coming on strong in '06.
n2advnture Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Just snagged (2) early 90s RAGs in the most recent Christies auction and can't wait for them to arrive! (Christies is VERY slow to ship...good god!) One of my all time favs! Great review! ~Mark
Finca Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I smoked it at my wedding, great cigar, perfect taste, woody nutty flavours and verry adult tobacco's used for this cigar. Defanitly a steady place for a box of those in my humidor.
Mel Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 In general I love the RAG but I have to admit that not all have been super. I remember one plugged so tight that I threw it out. The first box of 02 that I got from Rob were the max and most are gone. The last ones 04 or 05??? are less complex but nice.
Jimmy2 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Just smoked one from late 05 all i have to say is it was very good well unreal. GREAT flavor old classic Cuban flavors a must in one humidor....:-D
waldo Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 I usually don't do reviews, but this one had to be done. I smoked one of these that had been in the humi for over a year (purchased here as a few singles). Construction was very nice. Prelight draw was nice, with all the flavors of stewed fruit, ect. But that's where it all ended (except for the burn, which was razor sharp) This has to have been the most boring hour I've ever spent with a cigar, and it didn't taste anything like a Ramon Allones.:-( Couldn't have been the location, I was in the mountains camping. And except for the bum foot, I was having a good time. ;-)
