jadawin Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Im trying to decide on what my next box purchase is going to be. Im smoking a Juan Lopez seleccion no.2 right now and really enjoying it. I think i want a box of the No.1 if i go with Juan Lopez though. What do you guys think about this cigar. Does it need major humi time or does it smoke well relatively fresh? Im thinking those or VR Famosos. Which do you guys think smoke better relatively fresh? I dont have a ton of humi space to age anything for a long time, or the cash either, hahaha.

I really enjoy the Ramon Allones Specially Selected. They are comparable to the JL#2 and are excellent even when they are young. TD
jadawin Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 yeah, i already have a box of those and really enjoy them. I want something new otherwise i would definately get another box.
effinwill Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Interesting. I liked the one RA I tried, but was told the SS needs some age - like 5-7 years.
smk819 Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I am an unabashed RASS freak, They are great aged, but also awesome young. I like the JL sel #2, but RASS is head and shoulders better.
bassman Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 » I am an unabashed RASS freak, They are great aged, but also awesome young. » I like the JL sel #2, but RASS is head and shoulders better. I'd recommend RASS, VR Famosos or SLR Regios over the JLs. Each of the 3 has more substantial & different flavors.
cigardawg Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 If you are thinking of a robusto-sized cigar...I think the VR Famosos is the best young-smoking one out there. The Regios is OK young, but IMHO really needs some age to shine. The RASS is OK young as well...I think better than the JL No. 2. The JL No. 2 is very nice with a few years on it. The HdM Epicure No. 2 is also nice with only a year or so on it. Just some thoughts.
Colt45 Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Personally, I think the JLS1 is a good choice. I'm in the minority with liking young RASS - I don't. I have an '05 box that, right now, doesn't have much to give. I pretty much feel the same about young VR Famosos. Just my opinion.
strayvector Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 The beauty of the Czar is that you can buy singles. Why not just order a sampler of robustos, hermosa no.4s, and corona gordas? This way you'll know exactly what you want from your next box.

I agree - I am really enjoying a box of '03 JL 1s - a fantastic smoke. Have had some tight draws though. Lots of flavor for a medium strength smoke...imo. A different habano for sure...can't really say this is like any other...I have little experience though so take it fwiw.
Mel Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Just more to think about. What about the Bolivar Royal Corona? I have had some great young Bolivar. Fresh Monte #4 can be good also. IMHO.
Taino Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Buy various singles. At least 3 of each and try for yourself IMHO that's way much better that any suggestion we can give you... and if you need help smoking them I can help you;-)
