Thanks Rob and Lisa!

I have eight different things to try out! Would you gentlemen suggest smoking one right away or letting them sit for awhile after their overseas trek?

I have quite a few monte #2's and #4's along with other brands that I have never tried.

If you must smoke one right away...go ahead. But you will not have the trueness unless you let the adjust for 2 weeks or so.

Fed Ex was here today also. Punch Punch and Party Shorts . WOOHOO!!!

If you can resist the urge, let them rest for at least a few weeks. With the holiday weekend upon us you are probably eager to put the flame to one of those beauties. Try and resist the temptation if you can. If not, go ahead and light up and enjoy it. Remember, it is all about enjoying the smoke. Don't feel guilty... just enjoy the smoke.

I gave in to temptation :-(

I finished mowing the yard on a sunny day here in Indy and decided, aww, what the Hell?

I had one of the Monte #4's. Unfortunately it was't the best experience.

The flavor took my by surprise at first, I thought it a bit harsh. I also had some really bad draw problems. Midway through the smoke, the flavor lightened up and I really started to enjoy it. By the last leg the draw problems were all gone, but it started to burn uneven :-|

The good thing is that although it burned uneven at the end, I was really hooked on where it was going and the draw was superb.

I can definitely see the potential for a great smoke here. It is the perfect size for my tastes, so in the Monte's go to the humidor for a few weeks.

I am really Jonesing to try a Cohiba Lancero after a big labor day meal. I don't think that one is gonna make it past Monday. :-D

It is tough to resist sometimes - but the rewards if you do can give you greater satisfaction down the line ;-)

Hold off on the Lancero my brother... hold off! :-) You just tasted the Montecristo #4 and were somewhat disappointed. I don't know what year the Lanceros are, but I would bet they are young. Give those babies a good rest. According to Min Ron Nee, the Cohiba Lancero is a very hydroscopic cigar. If they are not properly rested/humidified, you could experience draw problems due to too much moisture in the cigar. (The leaf that Cohiba uses in the Lancero is very oily and holds onto the moisture much more than other cigars. At least this is how I understand it.)

My suggestion would be to smoke another Montecristo No.4 or something else that you have in the humidor. July 4th isn't that far away, and by then, the Cohiba Lancero will be well acclimated to your humidor and ready to smoke! I know it is difficult to hold off, but trust me on this one, that Cohiba deserves all the respect and time you can give it.

However... if you do light up the Cohiba, remember to smoke it slowly. The way it has been explained to me, sip this cigar. The Lancero should take a good 1.5 - 2.0 hours to finish this baby. Just make sure you take your time with her.

YEs , I would hold off on the Lancero. I have a box from 2000 and when I recieved them I only waited till the 2nd day to smoke one. Not impressive at all.

But the next 2 I smoked 3 weeks later were truely sublime!!!!

Sorry that temptation got the better of you. Many discussions have been made that resting all new arrivals for At Least 30 days to adjust to your humidor and allow the cigar to get over all the "Jet Lag" if you will from their travels allows the cigars to present a much better smoking experience than smoking one right after you receive it.

Yes, I know that it is hard, but waiting is going to pay off BIG TIME for you. Why waste your money as well as the cigar by not allowing the cigars to properly adjust and provide you with the best it has to offer?

I recommend that you WAIT on smoking the Cohiba Lancero. Even if the cigar has age on it, do yourself a BIG FAVOR and WAIT until it has an opportunity to adjust to your humidor.

It really pains me to read about people smoking great cigars right off the truck and wasting their money and a great cigar by not letting them rest for AT LEAST 30 days after arrival.

» 30 days.......let's see if you can do it

BFS on the thirty days deal, and don't even read the Min Ron NEE stuff he says they won't be ready for another 20 years. Two weeks minimum and three is better. This new Fed Ex is fast and the less time exposure leads to quicker recovery times. Don't listen to me either Iv'e burned more green sick cigars than any one.;-)
