Jimmy2 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 My Friend bought a box for a friend i think they are fake here's why. Please if you can let me know what you all think and if you have picture please post. 1)They have a main card board box Code KMM ENE04 on the bottom 2)When i looked at the box inside it had a code on the bottom same thing KMM ENE04 Also i think there should be a thin wax paper along the bands ? 3)Green stamp on the card board box code GKO 79577 4)The wood box also had a Green Stamp GEO 69967 ? 5) Also the limited bands are not all that clear and some have like black ink smeared on the bands. 6)They also smell like most milldew or like a wet basement in a house. I need to give my friend this info so please let me know so he can ring this guy's a$$ in... Hope they are real but i don't think so..

Where did he get them? Reputable vendor? The code seems OK..but you won't be able to tell anything from the green stamp code as it is intended for Cuba's quality purposes, same thing for the ink being smeared, these types of things are common. They should have a barnyard aroma to them and maybe even a tinge of ammonia smell to them. Best thing to do.... Have your friend smoke one (or let you smoke one:-D ) and you will know if its authentic. Good luck
Jimmy2 Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 The thing that gets me is why have a differant green stamp code on the carboard box and than have a differant one on the wood box ?
Tave1225 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 » The thing that gets me is why have a differant green stamp code on the » carboard box and than have a differant one on the wood box ? No two green stamps are alike...they are like tracking numbers on money. They serve that purpose and other purposes for Habanos SA and the factories.
Tave1225 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 The green stamps are an old method that was used to counter the production of fakes and I believe, the stamp is issued by the government for export. Now, those stamps can easily be copied but Cuba refuses to do away with them.
habanohal Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 You just half to smoke one.....fire it up.........light that bad boy up!!!!!!! Mine are GREAT right now. Loads of flavor. I am very happy with them now, so if they do get better with age, then good for me. If you smoke one, you will know if you have crap or real deal. No doubt bout that!

El Presidente Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 » Some look like they have them and some don't look like they do they dont » look quite on.. Jimmy, do the wrappers smell Cuban or Ecuadorian? The Edition Limitada bands look rough. Lack of tripple caps is a major concern. No wax paper insert?
Jimmy2 Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Yes wax paper also they smell like a dam basment that was flooded. They also have a sweet smell to them. I mean the one you pictured are way better looking than the one my friend bought. I just want to make sure my friend does not get @ucked if you know what i mean.. I mean in your eye's Rob what do you think? Rob i sent you an E-Mail please check thanks..
Guest cohiba Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Ok well i looked at my box......code SVF ABR05. Everything looks exactly like El Prez's box. The only noticable difference is the cedar sheet. Mine is a straight cut across, not a "Finger" hole. Does that make it suspect? Wrappers are very rough.....great looking sticks. Just havent smoked from it yet. I still have a few singles bought from El Prez. Feed back on the "cut out" is appreciated.

Guest cohiba Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 What do you think of the date and code...El Prez? I also have a box of Cohiba DC's the cardboard has the stamps and chevrons, but the actual box has nothing on it. Even the government seal is only on the cardboard? Thanks for your feedback !!!
Jimmy2 Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Look at the Cohiba sticker under the top cover to the box on my picture's.That Cohiba sticker should be rounded at the four corner's. But look at the bottom right it's not rounded.

I have seen this before but rarely. Sometimes the second government seal is found loose on the inside of the cardboard box. Again rare, but I have seen it.
El Presidente Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Jimmy. That box of cigars (real or not) has been water damaged. I was trying to re-call where I have seen the exact discolouration of LE bands and it came to me. In 2003 we had a water pipe bust in our humidor and lost $15000 worth of stock which was low and along one wall. I remember that the bands on the LE's which were water damaged looked identical to the LE bands on your friends cigars. Your comments re wet aroma confirm this.
Jimmy2 Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Prez i dont have the box with me at this time but i think it was gold. I think it's a reflextion problem making it look black will check tomorrow.
Jimmy2 Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 That must explain why they look a little bloated than.Out of all the Sublimes i smoked all were nicely rounded. Also they was literly no space between the cigars in the box and some of them had a box press look on their sides there was no room in there. The one's you have pictured Rob have some space between them and have that rounded look to them like the one's i have smoked. Will be trying one tomorrow will let you all know.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Does anyone else have a black border around the Cohiba Sublime stcker on the inside lid of the box? it may be a time frame of production issue so if you have a box do you list the border type you have (dark or light) and the box code.
