Ken Gargett Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 now i realise that a good many of our members hail from the usa (and i happily state here that one of the best years of my life was when i lived there) and i certainly understand that a forum like this will have people with a wide range of views and i fully respect that. but does anyone else see a problem with this? mate, very keen fly fisherman, was just over there and bought a copy of Field & Stream. in it is an advert for a gun dealer that says "The antidote for your 9 to 5 blues can be found at your local gun shop." does this not concern anyone or am i totally out of touch (yes, i am aware that they are not mutually exclusive)?
Mel Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 No concern here mate. Field and Stream is a very main line publication and I am sure there is no intent to replace jobs with robbery. Owning and shoooting firearms gives many poeple hours of harmless pleasure and is part of my freedoms that is part of this great country. A buddy and I were discussing the issues(no fish bite) and the law of no guns in school came up. He recalled that when he was in grade school and got a new gun he would first take it to school and show it off to his buddies. No harm there mate. No one would ever think or dream of shooting a person with it. It was for squirel, rabbits ,birds and cans. Good God man shoot another mate at school????????????? Fist fights and name calling ok but not guns for school yard disputes. Now guns are the same but people are not. Eliminate guns and crime will not stop. Before guns murder was buy blade, stick or stone. Eliminate people and crime will stop. Solution- Everybody herf and be have. My 9-5 blues are cured at quiting time with a Habanos. Oh **** that's illegal too. How free am I?
Curmudgeon Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I presume the antidote the advertisement has in mind is target shooting or hunting. Either way, I don't see a problem with it.

Thats the way I read it. I doubt the ad has some yahoo in a mask waving a .45 in the air holding up a liquor store with a born to lose tattoo on his/her arm.
Colt45 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 You're out of touch. I'd be much more concerned about a country that tried to make me turn in my guns. » does this not concern anyone or am i totally out of touch (yes, i am aware » that they are not mutually exclusive)?
El Presidente Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Ken. Can I assume you won't be coming to next August's Cigar, Flyfishing and Pig Shooting tour or Arnhemland
Freefallguy Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 » You're out of touch. I'd be much more concerned about a country that tried » to make me turn in my guns. Right on Colt! If memory serves, it was about 1938 or’39 that a little man from Bavaria with big plans for his reich decided that the common volk(no misspelling there) were better off without their firearms. What’s that saying... “those who no longer remember history are doomed to repeat it.” If you are one who is prone to calling us Yanks(though many, even here, still whistle Dixie), you’ll never understand how this country was won. It’s simply an American birthright… thank God the Federalists had the insight to add the 2nd amendment! Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! OK, I’m done... [steps down from the soap box and fumbles for a CoRo] Any body got a light?
rumrogue Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Ken, It appears to be a penis extension thang.
