olotti Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Just curious if anyone is enjoying the recent BBF's as much as I am? I have a box from ABR 05 that could be the best young BBF's I've ever smoked, I'm finding it hard to leave them alone and another box for ageing is definitely on the horizon. I was so entranced with this smoke I went back to back with them Sat. night of course the rum took a little of the edge off the second one. :-D
habanohal Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 For myself, I say they are not as flavorful as previous. I stick with the PCs'

For being so young it was nice and smooth. I found it very full bodied and with some spiceyness going on. I definately enjoyed this more than the PCs I have tried, which are very good in their own right. :-P
Colt45 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I've thoroughly enjoyed the recent vintage BBFs I've tried so far. I enjoy the BPCs as well.
CigarZen Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I really like BBFs, very good to great cigars, imho. The newest ones I have are Nov 04 which are good but not as good as some I had from 03 that had fruity notes in addition to the Boli earth and spice. Wish I had some more of those. BBFs were a very popular and seemlingly well respected stick, but it seems like they don't get the same love any more. Is that true? What do you guys think? P.S. -- good to hear that the 05s are doing well by you.:-P
El Presidente Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 05's have been consistently better than 04. Only issue has been a tighter roll. Not too tight mind you (about perfect for me) but you do have to pull on the cigar. I find this has accentuated the flavour.

I enjoyed the draw too, I didn't care for the loose draw that was common starting around 02.

I think I'm enjoying them more! ;-) :-D Seriously, one fantastic cigar; easy draw, good burn, rich aromas, doesnt get hot even if you smoke it like it's your last cigar... just bought 3 cabinets of these. Maybe I can get them, er, one, to age. Like till 2007 :-P
Mel Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I have the 05 also and they are more snug than some others I have had but good none the less. I am smoking the whole cab. None for aging out of this box.
olotti Posted May 5, 2006 Author Posted May 5, 2006 I understand what you guys are saying about the draw. I bought a couple singles and they had a bit tighter draw than the box that I bought. The ones in my cab smoke like a dream.
DocRKS Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Even after numerous attempts, I still find the Bolivar line not to my liking at all. This one just doesn't do it for me - but there are a LOT of others that do....That's one of the things that makes this hobby so awesome !
effinwill Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I'm debating between the BBF or PC and some Punch SS1 for my first Cuban purchase. Never tried either cigar line! But I do like strong earthy cigars. Any advice, gents?

This one just doesn't do it for me - Hey Doc do you like the bubblegum and candy ones?;-) Bolivar to strong fer ya? I do agree that differences make the thing exciting. Boli turns my crank.:-D
idesign Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I had some ABR 05's as well and they've been great.......until Friday when I had a terrible one. The draw was great, but zero smoke was coming out. I checked out the wrapper thinking it might be cracked, but no, it looked fine. I had to set it down after an inch of frustration......
genevapics Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I too would suggest that you buy some singles. I usually pick a vitola and buy three (3) sticks of just about every marca. This gives me an opportunity to smoke some early... let them rest for several months... and then come back to them down the road. Mind you, I only smoke 2... maybe 3 cigars a week(end). So for me, 15/18 cigars will last me quite some time. I enjoy sampling this way, as it allows me the opportunity to taste many different cigars from certain vitolas. Hopefully, within the next two years, I will have very good idea of what I do and do not like. JMO.:-)
effinwill Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 » Thanks for the advice, fellas. I reckon I need to start posting and then start smoking. Where's that "shameful gratuitous posting" thread? :-)
