cigarnv Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 SC Oficios – FJN DIC05 This cigar is one of the new additions to the San Cristobal marca. While I would have liked to have it rest a bit longer than a week it kept calling to me.. The Oficios is a perfect size cigar, 43 x 135, for me as I am leaning towards the corona size range as of late. The aroma from the box was one of rich damp earth with hints of sweetness and peat when opened. The cigar was a beautiful dark Colorado with a silky smooth wrapper that appeared to be quite thin and delicate. The cigar felt a bit more humid to the touch than I typically like (61-63%) but was not what would describe as “wet”. The SC drew perfectly when clipped and had a rich, fresh tobacco taste. The SC lit perfectly and generated lots of rich, soft smoke. The flavor from the first puff was very pleasing and one that in all honestly was far better than I was expecting. It was one of those tastes that make you pay attention and look at the band to reconfirm what you are smoking. The flavor profile was one of light woodiness, toasted nuts and hints of very light spice laced in and out. The finish had a bit of sweetness, espresso and cocoa. The smoke itself had a very creamy mouth feel that left a surprisingly long finish. The Oficios was very well balanced considering it’s youth and moderately complex. Most interesting was that there was no hint of harshness or tannin that I was expecting. This was a cigar that I would have guessed was a few years older if I did not know any better. Another of the 2005’s that is very approachable while young. As for aging, it appears that the Oficios has enough stuffing to carry it for some time. IMO, a few years of age will reveal a wonderful complexity that we have begun to see in the 1999 SC’s and yield a cigar that may well be better than the original SC’s.
