Guest mr. snappy Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I noticed a growth on a few of my cigars today. It's white, appears fuzzy, and is growing out and around. I'm guessing it's either mealy worm or mold. In any case, I want to get rid of it. My instinct is to clear out the humidor, chuck all the cigars in the freezer for a while, and clean the humi. But I don't know exactly what it is and don't know what to do about it regardless. Any help and/or expertise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. BTW, the infected is a desktop humidor where hum. ranges between 68-72 and temp. probably ranges between 65-75.
genevapics Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Sounds like mold. Do your cigars feel moist/spongy? Are they in a humidor or a coolerdor? If the later, you might want to let the cooler breathe at least once a week. Crack it open and let some fresh air in. As far as the cigars, wipe them off and they should be okay. But it really seems as if your RH is way too high. Don't rely on the hygrometer. Rely more on touch and feel. Your cigars shouldn't feel overly moist. They should spring back when slightly pinched. Again, if you wipe them off and get your RH under control, I think they should be fine. JMO.
Colt45 Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I agree that it sounds like mold, and that your humidity is a bit on the high side. Your temp sounds a bit high as well.

I Concur.....I also use a little bit of cheap wine on the paper towel when I wipe the cigars so the alcohol kills the mold growth.....Don't want to waste good wine for this....
El Presidente Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Just a little mold. No biggie. Wipe your cigars down and remove your humidifier for a week.
