CIGARHead Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Just saw on the news where there is a major cyclone off Brisbanes coast. Hope you, Lisa, Smitty and the rest of the crew are OK Rob. Check in when you can.
El Presidente Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 It is a long way north of us although bearing down on Smithy's parents home just outside of Cairns. 300km per hour winds will make it interesting.

Glad to hear you guys are out of the storms path...Hopefully the storm with weaken more and spare Smithy's parents home!!!!
Ken Gargett Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 very kind of you guys to be concerned but a cyclone in north queensland is about as threatening to us in brisbane/gold coast as katrina was to seattle. those further north, however, will be having a hell of a time. believe it hit category five recently - so something similar to the ones that hit the states last year.
Ben Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Sometimes I get the feeling our foreign friends have no idea just how bloody big Australia is The cyclone is well over a thousand miles North of FOH House.
Loki Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I checked Google earth. The cyclone is quite a bit away as was mentioned, still the awesome power of these storms is just incredible.
Ken Gargett Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 » see how we get treated for caring????:-( apologies if my comment was misunderstood. it was not meant as anything other than genuine re the 'very kind' bit and the comment re katrina and seattle was only intended to put it in perspective re us in the southeast corner.

We can take a punch every now and then. But that pic of you in the harness? Naw man, thats messin me up bad. Got us on the ropes with that stuff!!

Roy R. Frush Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 » Sometimes I get the feeling our foreign friends have no idea just how » bloody big Australia is » » The cyclone is well over a thousand miles North of FOH House. Sometimes I get the feeling our foreign friends have no idea how little geographical knowledge Americans have of our own homeland. Ignorance of the geography of a country on the other side of the earth should come as no surprise... :-D Glad to hear FOH was out of harm's way, and my thoughts and prayers go out to those who were adversely affected.
Havana Joe Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Glad to hear that you guys are far from the storm....:-)
DocRKS Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 » Sometimes I get the feeling our foreign friends have no idea just how » bloody big Australia is » » The cyclone is well over a thousand miles North of FOH House. Some of us here in THESE Colonies know very well how big Australia is ;-) ...The words of caring however were intended not just for those that live in close proximity to FOH House - but to any of our Brethren in Australia that may lurk or post here who may have been either directly in harm's way or had extended family who may have been in jeopardy...

It is appreciated. I do have an Uncle and Auntie up there and according to him it got mighty breezy. :-)

El Presidente Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 This morning I asked a client of mine who lives in the worst affected area....how bad was it?. " **** Rob, The pub didn't re-open until 6pm" They breed them tough in the North

JMH Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 » " **** Rob, The pub didn't re-open until 6pm" I heard on the radio this morning that when everyone was buying supplies in readiness, the longest lines to be found were outside the grog shops Thank god they've got their priorities right.
