Ok. So I know 2007 is still a year away, but we need to get moving on this so as to rent a place for the week.

Islamorada in the FL Keys is ideal for sportfishing. I have been doing a bit of research and there are endless possiblities. Depending on how many peeps actually can go will determine the place and the price.

I found 3 excellent places..two less expensive, the other not so much. But, if there are say 10 people going, the most expensive place would only be around $800/person to stay for the entire week.

Here are a few pics:

This gem is $3200/week

I think if we start early to get a general consensus of solid people who want and have the means to go it would be a lot smoother.

Rob, I'll shoot you a call to talk more in depth, but this should be phenominal.

still keen on this idea and doing some thinking. will develop a few things when back.

aside from some connections we have in the caymans, that all sounds brilliant. for non americans, we can include a visit to cuba for bonefishing etc and for aussies especially, we might be able to tie it in with the the world cup cricket semis and finals. but there is plenty for all.

anyone know best timing for alaska and salmon?

ken,

in my opinion, the fish we would catch off the fl coast would more than satisfy the thrill. dolphiin, billfish, grouper, cobia, lobster etc...

my bess are that one of those big ass billfish would pull you right outta the boat.

you man enough?:-|

Looks Great....except I would never leave the house

These are my limitations. I need to do it the week (4-5 days)leading into the 2007 RTDA. I will more than likely do a week in Havana then the fishing and finish with the RTDA.

Note: Do not invite Lisa.

Ken, I think it depends what type of salmon you are going after. There are several species such as kings, pinks, sockeye (or are sockeye also pinks?) In any case the various runs peak at different times with only a few weeks overlapping where several species can be caught with any consistency. I would think kings are the species to target but perhaps someone who has actually been there will tell. There are also things like halibut and certain rough fish to be had.

Also, Alaska much more costly than the Islmorada trip. You can go on the cheap but may end up sleeping in the parking lot of a logging camp as my friends once did!

I can imagine what this "gem" would look like with 10 cigar smoking, beer drinking, card playin blokes after 5 days!:ok: I hope none of that stuff is breakable. I'm used to sleeping in a shack and eating out of can when fishing in Canada. I'm in!
