mulberry Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 after another 1-day cold front came through here, i was sitting in back yard and tried another one of these to see how they are coming along. everyone always say these are crude, but the ones I have look great, nice sheen on the medium brown wrappers, good construction, overall very well rolled, havent had a plugged or bad drawing one yet clipped the tip off about 3/8" up and prelight draw was good and could taste the spicyness lit the other tappered end and had a very good draw and never had to touch up over the hump started off with a woody peppery spice and medium bodied, after 1/2" in you could start to taste the partagas fruityness coming in but was somewhat overpowered by spice, flavor stayed the same until last inch then became heavier on spice and wood and no fruityness it drew and burned good all the way down, only had to correct once overall i enjoyed this, not complex but has good flavor and strength hopefully I can age some to see waht happens to them I would give this a B
cigardawg Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I have only tried a couple of these. Surprisingly, they did not do much for me. I love Partagas. I smoke probably twice as many Partagas as any other Habanos. However, the Presidente just didn't have the taste that I was looking for. Maybe it was too raw...don't know. Have not revisited them.
El Presidente Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Nice Review! It reminds me very much of the R&J Cazadores. For the Presidente I need to be inthe mood. It is a good hunting cigar on a brisk morning accompanied by a campfire brewed espresso. Clean the barrel, ammo in the pockets, check the water bottles all the time with the Presidente near at hand. It is a no nonsense spicy cigar which needs no flash divan. It knows it's place.

tey Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 i don't know if i would put the cazadores so close to the part pres in terms of personality
cigarnv Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I am with Tey on this one... I find the Cazadoes a wonderful cigar with at least 6-10 years of age. They do tend to be less complex, but are damn tasty when age softens up the tannins. I have always found the PPres. flat, uninteresting with little improvement brought about with age. Also I have found the pre-2000 Presidentes to be very prone to plugging while the Cazadoes has always been well constructed. JMO.....
The Privateer Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I agree the majority on this one...I have found the Presidentes to be too one-dimensional for my liking. The flavours seem skewed towards a tannic spiciness that doesn't agree with me.
jgros001 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 For the size, they are a decent bargain as far as cubans go. I agree that they are fairly one dimensional, but I really enjoy them. Got some of that Partagas flavor and the citusy cuban twang. Working through a box from DIC 04 right now.
