cigardawg Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 OK, this has probably been asked before, but I can't find the answer. Therefore, I'll ask it again. I am looking for resource materials (books, websites, etc.) on Cuban Cigars. I own a copy of the Min Ron Nee book and I think it is wonderful. It gives a great rundown of the cigars themselves and provides the most detailed and plausible theory on aging that I have seen. What is lacks, however, is a discussion of the tobacco. Regions of Cuba in which it is grown, the varieties, the history. What wrappers were used when? What are their properties? I guess I'm looking for more technical information. What would be fantastic is a map of Cuba with the regions, factories, etc. highlighted. Anyway, just wanted to ask if such an animal exists.

Part of what you are asking I do not believe will ever be released as it is closely guarded information as it relates to blending and those are held tighter than Grandma's receipts! You might like to find a copy of the Habanos S.A. booklet "Cultivating a tradition of perfection, which has the growing regions on a map as well as more information about the growth cycles, conditions, regions etc. It also has a poster with all the different sized cigars made and a ring gauge.
cigardawg Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 I understand that particular blends are guarded secrets. I guess I did not articulate what I was looking for. I really just looking for general information. I have heard people talk about the corojo wrapper was used pre-1997 and the criollo wrapper on other vintages. Then the switch to the Habana 2000 wrapper, which burned poorly, etc. Just wondering where this type of information comes from. Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can find a copy of it.:-)

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but a hard cover book called "Cigars of the World" published by Wellfleet Press in New Jersey. Has some great pics and background info on most Cuban brands.
