Fireball Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Ok. I need some pro advice here. I recently got a box of NCs. When I opened it there was a strong finger nail polish smell. The box is painted (and was done for a short timeframe/quick production) so I assume problems not letting box dry or air out properly are the cause. I took the cigars out and they are airing out on a shelf in my basement at 55% RH. The box is open and airing out elsewhere. I was gonna leave it like this for a week or two. I assume a few weeks at 55%rh will be okay. Where do I go from here? Has anyone had this happen before? Thanks.
Popular Post El Presidente Posted July 6 Popular Post Posted July 6 Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva Cosecha 2003, Habanos Festival Gift 2009. 2 cigar varnished gift box. It reeked of varnish. The cigars reeked of varnish. It took a couple of months once home (and out of the varnished box) before they came good. I kept them in an open tray in a humidified room but away from everything else. 7
Dadof3 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Are we allowed to make the joke about the college girlfriend who possessed a smelly box? Asking for a friend. 1 1
cnov Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Arturo Fuente Rosado Magnum 44 something or other came in a box of around 50, nice enough cigar but the box had some plastic adorned to the side of it that stunk of chemicals. I kept it separate from other boxes, didn't notice anything untoward in the cigars themselves, then sold the remaining cigars when I stupidly thought it was time to give up smoking.
avaldes Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I’ve had Hemingways come in with obviously fresh boxes that still smelled of their finish. Honestly I buried them and forgot about them and didn’t notice it once I started pulling cigars out of the box.
