dhart93 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 As we all know, my collection has gotten a little bigger than I expected. I’m in the market for an electric humidor. I found one for $450 that’s a little dinged up but still works. Is the New Air 1500 a decent unit or should I look for something else?
Socrates Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I have a NewAir 1500 that I used for about a year, and then decided to order a larger Raching unit. I still have it but keeping it as a backup humidor in case my Raching fails or I need more cigar storage. Overall it's a decent unit and gets the job done. Here are my pros and cons. Pros: Tons of storage for the size of the unit. The shelves are highly quality, thick wood, they slide out very smoothly. Simple to operate and you can calibrate the unit to match your own sensors if you think it is off when you get it. I'd say it does decent job at keeping your cigars in the approx. temp / RH range you want them to be at. Cons: Filling the water tray every week or two is a bit of a pain in the ass because you need to get down really low and use a flashlight to make sure you are not overfilling the water tray. It only has ONE temp/humidity sensor that is located in the top right corner of the unit. So it is not reading the middle or bottom at all and basis it's actions on this one sensor. I found when I had mine set to 70F and 65%RH....the actual reading on the top were about 70F and 62%RH...and the bottom was about 69F and 67%...while the middle was at about 70F and 65%RH. So just a delta of about 4-5% RH from top to bottom. If that is okay with you...then not a problem. Mine is also kind of loud when the compressor kicked on every 5 min or so (louder than my Raching is) so I moved it to an area where it did not bother me. For the money it's decent IMHO.
