david9985 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago It seems a given that the stick should take on cedar notes when wrapped in cedar and stored in a tube. But is a metallic taste from the tube itself also imparted?
Lucas Buck Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I love Tubos and have collected them from the 90’s to the present. I have smoked some 20-30 year olds recently and have experienced no metallic taste ever. Cedar definitely, but no metallic notes. 3
JDoughty Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago No. I have also smoked some very old tubos that were past their prime, but the taste was not metallic. There is a bit of an 'grand old library books' aroma that usually shows up with the really old stuff. It can be unique and somewhat pleasant, or a bit too papery, musty or unpleasant, depending on the cigar and aging conditions. I've never gotten a metallic or rusty taste or aroma from a cigar that I can recall. Mineral yes, metal no. 1
zacca Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I’ve never experienced any metallic taste, but that said, I’ve often wondered about some non-cedar / benign substitutes for cedar. It’s usually a note I don’t want more of in a cigar with certain brands.
dopECM Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Aluminum tubos are pretty much completely neutral (the metal is neutral and doesn't react with air or humidity, like iron would do), so they don’t pass any metallic taste or flavor to the cigars over time. The only influence comes from the small cedar insert, which can add a tiny bit of aroma.
