Popular Post 05jpowell Posted yesterday at 10:24 AM Popular Post Posted yesterday at 10:24 AM So after I received my 10 boxes of the no.6 and no.1 109s, I begrudgingly made myself wait the prescribed 30day period before cracking into them. Last night I decided to start with the petit 109, the plan is to eventually have a 50 cab of each but for now I'm going to try both, review both and then buy a cab of which one I prefer for now. These are stored at 63% RH at 65°F Initially I was a little dubious as the smell from the box had a slightly musky smell to it, this however was not anything to worry about, it was amazing on lightning up, the draw was literally perfect, slight resistance and plenty of smoke. Firstly the feel and looks, these boxes are extremely well presented, the cigars are colour matched excellently, the wrappers are pristine and oily. The 109 caps are bloody lovely and well constructed, the pack of the cigar gives it a firm feel but as you can see by the photo, very nicely filled. 1st third, creamy leather, nuts, brioche, cedar and a hint of toffee through the nose. Smoke was a little mouth drying but flavours were bloody excellent and not a lick of spice through the retro. 2nd third, a caramel latte in a cigar, heavy cream, coffee, the toffee/caramel kicked up a notch to be the 2nd most dominant flavour with the coffee, the woodiness took a backseat and the retro had a subtle hint of a baking spice. Final third, espresso and cedar lead, the caramel/toffee dropped out completely and so did the cream and was replaced with a slightly bitter edge but not unpleasant made for a nice transition from the dessert edge it had up until this point. The spice through the retro kicked up a fair bit to be more of a pepper spice and it had an oily texture to the smoke. Overall I'd say definitely something I will smoke again without reservations, likely in the very near future, I'd say it was more of an after dinner smoke, heavy flavors and a good 90min smoke. The nicotine strength was laid back.As you can see, I rubbed this bad boy. 92 points from me, I think in a couple years this will easily be a 95+ smoke. This is what Hamlet does best and the Fab 5 team have really excelled themselves. Can't wait to try the bigger no.1 over the festive period. 13 3
habanohal Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Have a box of both. Like them a lot, though very similar flavor to regular Fab 5 line up. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago They took longer to acclimate in the humidor than his other line of cigars. Construction is as good as it gets really. Bond Roberts is a classy line of cigars. I like both sizes equally. I can also see why someone would gravitate towards the other lines first. I also like less aged tobacco profiles of the other line. Both lines fill their roles well. When are the tubos coming out? 1
