Cigars International Opens Newport, Ky. Store

Cigars International, the world’s largest seller of cigars, has announced that it has opened its newest store.

This location is at 1 Levee Way, P-106, in Newport, Ky., located in the Newport on the Levee district. The store is on the banks of the Ohio River and is minutes from Cincinnati.

Cigars International Newport is 5,700-square-feet and includes a full-service bar, a walk-in humidor, an indoor lounge and two levels of outdoor seating. Unlike most of Cigars International’s stores, this is not a standalone, new construction build.

“We are thrilled to bring the Cigars International experience to Newport on the Levee,” said Scott Vasko, vp of retail for Cigars International, in a press release. “This store is not just about buying great cigars — it’s about community, relaxation, and creating memories. Our team has created a space where you can discover your next favorite cigar, unwind with friends, and enjoy the company of fellow cigar enthusiasts.”

While the store is already open, a grand opening party is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6. Cigars International says the first 500 attendees will receive a “curated gift pack.” The launch event starts at 9 a.m. The new location is less than a mile from The Party Source, a 113,000-square-foot liquor store that also sells a large volume of cigars.

Cigars International is the world’s largest retailer of cigars and is part of a massive omnichannel retail operation owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG). It is best known for its mail-order business, which includes a website and catalog, but it has long operated retail stores. In the last decade, STG has ramped up investment in its physical stores.

In addition to Cigars International—which is best known for its online and catalog business—STG also owns Thompson Cigar, Cigar Bid, Cigar.com, Pipes and Cigars, and Club Macanudo. STG also sells dozens of different brands in the U.S., ranging from the non-Cuban versions of Cohiba and Partagas to Alec Bradley, CAO, Macanudo, Room101 and others. The company splits its portfolio of brands between two separate sales teams: General Cigar Co. and Forged Cigar Co.
