Popular Post Montezüma Posted November 21, 2025 Popular Post Posted November 21, 2025 A few weeks ago a dear friend of mine had invited me to an event in Jakarta, Indonesia and I have decided to share a glimpse of it here on FOH. The event was to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Cuba, held at the prestigious Cohiba Atmosphere. A cigar lounge that was only opened recently, presenting itself not only as place for cigar enthusiasts to share their passion but also to represent the presence of Cuban cigars in the city. Courtesy of an FOH discord session earlier this year, I have learned that a Cohiba Atmosphere is usually established through an established relationship with HSA and having been introduced to the distributor in person at the event, I am happy to confirm that this was the case. This event in particular was attended by the esteemed Ambassador of Cuba for Indonesia, giving chance for its attendees to familiarize with the anniversary in celebration. The showcase of historical significance was a particular highlight of the event because for many, the longstanding relationship and complexities of changing times of past 65 years had been witnessed with keen interest. Regardless of political spheres of influence, one thing had prevailed throughout history which was of course, the love for Cuban cigars. The Torcedor was at the center of the event, with a freshly-rolled Cuban cigar presented to attendees and the special band for the occasion was truly unique. My friends who had lit the large vitola at the event seemed sufficiently impressed but I chose to save mine as any amateur aficionado would, hoping to establish what placebo effect of age might benefit such a novel souvenir. I feel that the event had marked an interesting phase for cigar enthusiasm in the city. After all, Vietnam already owns such an influential venue for the region. Thailand has established its own Edicion Limitada, a Punch that I have recently picked up and so has Malaysia. The lounge is cozy, not too intimidating and although could do with better ventilation, certainly served its purpose. My only wish was that of a wider selection of beverage, the place was very much tailored for evening gatherings accompanied with whisky and tequila. A larger offering of cocktail and wine would have been my personal preference. In the end though, I was satisfied with the event. It showed just how far Cuban cigars have grown in fellowship in the city and the knowledge shared in between was particularly rewarding. As I finished my Double Edmundo, I left the event and was keen to attend another in future. 8
