Exactly right - when not related to a chemical substance one would refer to it as a “process addiction.” Theoretically one can develop them in a wide range of areas, but the most common are gambling (which has been shown to affect the limbic system in addicts similarly to drugs like cocaine), shopping, computer/device, sex/love and pornography. Gambling addiction is the sleeping dragon in the US. Nicotine may be the most addictive substance used by humans, but you don’t often find it driving people to steal to fuel the habit. The worst you’ll typically see is black market buying. 2

Fortunately the few studies that looked at cigars have found that it does not drive addiction in most users the way cigarettes or vaping do. This is at the heart of the PCA’s lawsuit against the FDA, who essentially ignored these findings when responding to public inquiry. 2
