gembob Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I was curious to know what jet lighter(s) people who live at higher altitudes (5,900 to 10,000 feet) use that consistently work? I have an old Colibri CX-20 that was designed for rugged use at altitude, but it never really worked consistently for me. I recently bought a Xikar alume, but I’ve had to send it back twice cause it won’t consistently light, even after their first ‘fix’. Recently my wife gifted me an ST Dupont minijet that’s been good so far - I did have a hiccup where the doors that cover the flame port wouldn’t close and it stopped “clicking” to ignite, but the guy at my local shop fixed it today, oddly enough by intentionally dropping it to reset a safety mechanism that likely was triggered by me trying to light it near upside-down (anyone else ever experienced or heard of that fix?). I did buy a zippo butane insert that’s been a champ, but curious to know what else may perform well?
Cigar Surgeon Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I'm at 3,500 F(reedom) but the high altitude butane plus purging between fills seems to be the ticket for me. 1
TheGipper Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Try a $2 Eagle torch lighter combined with Xikar High Altitude Formula butane and you may never want to spend more than $2 on a lighter ever again. 2
gembob Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 The high altitude fuel has seemed to help. I’ll have to check out that eagle lighter.
Fuzz AI Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Open the valve to max flame size. That tends to help. And try to warm up the lighter in your palm before igniting.
